[REQUEST] HP dv6-6145dx Advanced Menu BIOS Unlock
#1
- Model: HP dv6-6145dx [AMD A8]
- HP Insyde BIOS version F21 (link)
- RW Acpi Tables Report (link)
- Special notes: RSA signed BIOS, includes 01649F20.bin and 01649S20.bin. Motherboard code ref is 358B.

Also, is there any chance that this model would be capable of a white list removal, or white list mod? I'm not clear as to how restrictive/impossible the RSA signed issue is.

Thanks! Smile

If it's pointless to submit requests for an RSA signed BIOS, can someone please confirm? In all of the intro/heading posts I've read, it's only stated that it's uncertain/risky, but not definitively impractical to do successfully.

If your still unsure about how unmoddable RSA signed bios are, then you can try this. Just run Insydeflash.exe and press start. Wait for it to initialize then press ok. Make sure you know how to recover from a brick before installing.

All I did was change a character in a string.

It looks like an F21 bios flash program. And all you did was just change a character in a string, nothing else? Is this just intended as a test to see if my BIOS being modded can be tolerated? I'm pretty sure it can, but that it won't last, according to other posts I've seen about it.

I had read in a previous post the mentioning of *2* different kinds of RSA signed BIOS, one that will tolerate modding and another that will not. But it wasn't very detailed, nothing to indicate what exactly that quality is that distinguishes one from the other beyond just succeeding or failing with a flash attempt. Are there more of one or other other? I don't know. But veteran user IpMark seems quite certain that it's highly risky, no matter which way you slice it.

Lol it was me who told you about the two different types of RSA bios Tongue

As I mentioned in our previous conversation, changing even one byte will brick your computer. This is just a test file so that you can see that for yourself.

If by the off chance that it works, your Main tab in the setup utility will have the text in its name changed.

^ Thanks for letting me know.

I don't have to do any BIOS hacks at this point, as HP provided me a new WiFi card with better specifications (up to 300Mbps). While I still don't approve of their white list practice, at least I'm no longer hampered by a sub-par performing card!
