I would like to access the advanced menu and tweak cooling options. The FN + something shortcuts don't seem to work. Any help greatly appreciated!

Can you elaborate on the "rewrite protected" part? The official images can be flashed over without restrictions, even to older versions. Does this have something to do with the .bin file being signed?

Also, the older models (Y530 in particular) allow you to activate the advanced options by a special key combo. Do you reckon they disabled it in the latest model?

I don't know about the special key combo...
Bypassing the flash protection is impossible

It seems that patching the bios would be of no use, because the EC ignores the BIOS values and controls the fans on its own.

So the only option would be changing the EC's behavior somehow.
