Okay, seems I spoke too soon; when I booted to a USB flash disk (with IBM DOS) and attempted to run the FLASH.BAT file, I received an error about "Fail to authenticate image! (FAIL: Unsupported)" I did upgrade to the 1.39 (8DET69WW) firmware image, and I still received this error. The README indicates I should just need to install that firmware, and this tool should work. Am I missing something?

Unfortunately I actually don't have Windows on my laptop, never have; I bought it with no OS when I ordered it from Lenovo. I'm running Linux Mint 15 on it.

Good news, I was able to find a Win7 live ISO, and boot into that, then apply the BIOS update that way. I've installed my 802.11ac WiFi card, and the system boots up normally. Thanks!

I am so thankful to you all!!! S..t, I have been surfing the internet for 10 hours already and no result. I have got X220 BIOS v1.26 and updated on 1.37 from
bgalakazam and patched from sovem. BIOS accepted my Ericsson 3G modem. Yesss! So thankful to you! And now have to look for the drivers (don't know where to find them but will find).
