Want to OC a bit with 2 X5650 XEONs...

Here is the link to the latest official BIOS.

Hello all!

I am new to the bios modding landscape, and I have tasked myself with learning to mod a couple supermicro boards such as this one to allow for overclocking. However, i am not sure how to. So, if anyone would be willing to help a newbie out, i am trying to overclock a pair of Xeon X5550s in a Supermicro X8DTU-F motherboard through a change in the BCLK.

http://www.supermicro.com/products/mothe...8DTU-F.cfm

That is the link to the Supermicro page for the motherboard

It would help greatly if someone could either upload a fresh bios with the mod already done, or if someone could coach me on what tools to use. I have been completely lost in trying to do this myself, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

It is unfortunate that this board or bios has the overclocking locked. This is a dirt-cheap board with excellent performance and 3 PCI-E slots. For less than $100 i get the two CPUs and the motherboard with 1.5x the performance of the i7-6700K

What would help is advice about how to identify boards that don't allow for overclock, because I would have reconsidered my purchase if i knew this.

I need the "Intel AES-NI" setting set to "Default Enabled".

I tried myself with AMIBCP, but cant Flash it with "SuperDoctor5" tool. (Checksum Incorrect?)

I made Backup with "Universal BIOS Backup Toolkit"

Thanks!!!

Link to stock BIOS please, thanks! You may not be able to flash modified BIOS, or could just be you can't flash this BIOS with "Superdoctor5" tool? Is that the supermicro flashing app? If yes, maybe then you can flash modified BIOS this way on that board.

Find your ME version, let me know, then I can maybe help you flash with FPT instead

The problem is, that I only have Remote Desktop access to the Server, and I need AES-NI enable. The only Software that can Flash from Windows is Superdoctor.

I tried AFUWIN to Flash, and AMISCE to Configure the BIOS. But they dont seem to work on Windows 2012R2.

Superdoctor Successfully Flashes the Modified Bios, but I cant see what happens during Reboot. After Reboot, the old BIOS with AES-NI Disabled is Flashed back................

Maybe it's not flashing then? Can someone with physical access flash it for you?

What is the Intel ME version of the system? Check with HWinfo64, or possibly via device manager. If you can find this, we may be able to flash via FPT from within windows (ie wont be flashed on reboot like with what appears to be happening with AFU) Unless that's just failing and then rebooting without actually flashing. Did you check it's log and see if it actually flashes, or just errors out?

Did you use AMIBCP 3.51, and change both fail safe and optimal to enabled? If yes, then that should be OK, I modified the file using that, and checked the mod file after and it was OK, so should be usable. We just may need to find the correct way to flash, if you can't be there in person and can't have someone on the phone or something like that do it for you on the other end.

It works with AMIBCP 3.51 Smile
I used 3.13 before... thanks for the hint

And Superdoctor just uses AFUWIN 4.48 for Flashing.
So this works too....

BUT new problems arised...
I got another Server... same Motherboard, same OS.

On this Server AFUWIN 4.48 tells me "Problem allocating BIOS Buffer"

Any suggestions?

Try other (older and newer) versions of AFUWin, you may need to modify "Superdoctors" batch file, or rename the other AFUWin files to match current one in superdoctors folders. Or use AFUWinGUI/AFUWin without superdoctor?

Also, if you were running any of the initial way you were trying from a USB drive, put all files on desktop and try again. And make sure it's actually using AFUWin not AFUDOS, or visa versa if using within windows or DOS. If it's rebooting to flash, that's from DOS so make sure it's not using AFUWin for that, unless you know it's flashed in windows and the reboot is only to reset/take effect.

If not already used, make sure the following flags are in the batch file or command line that superdoctor uses when flashing (this is from the default batch file with your BIOS download)
/P /B /N /K /R /C /L2

And you can also try adding /OPR too
