[Request] AM3 support for ECS RS485M-M
#1
Hi! I have a ECS RS485M-M board with only AM2 CPUs support like Athlon 64 X2. I want to add AM3 CPUs support like for example Athlon II X4 640.
I know, adding AM2+/AM3 support to AM2 bios is impossible, but I tried crossflashing to see if I can find any bios that boots on this board.
To my surprise bios from the ASRock ALiveXFire-eSATA2 boots despite being for different chipset! (ATi RD480 + SB600 on ASRock, ATi RS485 + SB460 on ECS).
Sadly, after trying to boot from hard drive (or anything else) it shows message "You are using wrong BIOS. This BIOS is only for SB600 based boards only".
So the question is it is possible to bypass that check to force SB600 bios work on SB460 board?

Thanks!

In attachments i'm adding bios from ASRock and photos from bios and error message.

Flash original BIOS.
Post a screenshot of Mainboard tab of CPU-Z with supported CPU.
Explain exactly what happens when you try to boot with new CPU.

With new CPU it just does not POST, which is no suprise, newest original bios is dated back 14 Feb 2007, way before any Phenom i/ii or Athlon ii.

I tested your mod and indeed it does no longer complain about wrong southbridge, AM3 CPU works now but that bios is just... broken on SB460.
USB works when it likes, SATA is totally unusable, shutting down causes BSOD and reset. I can boot Windows from IDE hard drive but that's it.

Thank you for mod anyway :]

BTW. I think your bios would be useful on MSI MS-7297 or ASUS M2R-FVM/S cuz both of them uses RS485 + SB600 instead of SB460 like ECS.

Flash original BIOS.
Make, zip and attach TXT report of CPU-Z.
Then test my 2nd mod.

I tested and it stucks at code 13 on debug card.
