[Request] Ace Aspire 7720G Firewire GUID number Bios location
#1
I know this is an unusual request, but i use my laptop for Osx and a problem appears after a bios recovery.

Unfortunetely, i use an eeprom programmer to flash the Bios.
I didn't know at this time, the usual Acer Bios recovery Procedure.

My UUID, serial number, etc.... disappeared.
I can reset them with some CompaL tools and the laptop run without probs under Windows.

The lastest problem is the most anoying, because my firewire GUID is 0000000000000000 and i can't find any tools to reinsert the GUID number.

Some tools exist, but it's for card controller or some 1394 Firewire controller who have a serial eeprom to stock PCI id & dev and some info
like the Firewire GUID number.

You can find very useful tools and info here :

http://ubcd4win.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=15839

For my part, i try the tools , but no result.I precise i have my GUID number on a printed sticker on the mobo.

i MUST have it, because Osx need it to obtain a working 1394 Port.
Osx can't pass away during the boot and it make an infinit loop because is
wainting after Firewire GUID number. (famous error : Firewire GUID is invalid!)

I suppose the Firewire GUID number is located in the bios, but where ???

Any help appreciated.

Regards,Ray.

I think you better clone entire spi flash from a donor with same equipment as yours.

I don't think you will find that number in the bios, otherwise flashing to latest oficial should correct that.

Please remember to come back and leave feedback. I hate leech and disappear thing.

Nice day.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, dumping a spi is the 2nd way to obtain a working 1394 under osx.

i'm sure the GUID number is in the bios, because before using the eeprom
programmer procedure to reflash the Spi, my firewire GUID number was OK Undecided

And on the ICL50 motherboard, the spi chip for the Ricoh 1394 chip is not soldered
on the mobo.

PS : i know RW everything can read the GUID number, can it help you to find
where the GUID number is located ?

Regards, Ray

after some works on another 7720G bios, i dump the entirely bios with my eeprom
programmer.

if you flash as usual with the insyde H20 Tools, the UUID,Serial,GUID is bypassed
to avoid blanking or changing this information.

this is why using latest bios or other : same result.

Of course, i have the GUID number on a sticker under the MXM emplacement.
As you know, the Firewire GUID number is unique, like UUID,S/N, etc....

my Firewire GUID is 00023F79C78286F3

i open the *.bin file with Andytools and obtain some Dump files.

i search after the GUID number in EACH files and... ooohhhhhh :

@ 0001e0e0h :

00 02 3F 79 C7 82 86 F3 FF FF FF FF FF 02 04 FF

in this file :

PADDING-00000000_0_2.ROM

Try then changing in platform.ini the setting to force update all sections.

I've already tried this tricks in platform.ini, changing ALL=0 in ALL=1

But without success, my UUID, S/N back to FFFF-FFFF etc....
but when i read the Firewire GUID Number is always set to 0000000000000000

Re-read my modded bios with phoenixtools 1.95 to see if my modification is
effective, and i can see my real Firewire GUID number in the new created file.

i've used the option to modify in "advanced" option menu in phoenixtools to mod it,
to authorize the mod of file in DUMP directory.

i suppose phoenixtools create PADDING-00000000_0_2.ROM file with some data
in the bios, but : which one or which module ?

i suppose i need to mod this data , but not directly in PADDING-00000000_0_2.ROM.

Don't hesitate to say if i'm in the wrong way. Smile

Regards,Ray
