[Request] Asus G751 G-Sync Unlock
#1
Question
Okay, 1st here is the story, Our old model G751 don't support G-Sync but we know that G751 is compatible for it. So I read the thread from here. As you can see it, to enable G-Sync have to

1) GPU hardware ID (since the official g-sync driver release there are 2 new gpu hw ids inside the driver to be recognised) - G-sync enabled g751s' have a specific GPU hw ID which is stored inside of a bios (not strictly vBios as it is not MXM gpu)

2) laptop's panel/screen EDID (which then the drivers change onfly to enable 75 Hz refresh rate...)

3) the presence of nvidia license cookie also stored inside of a BIOS

I wan't to mod the bios but I'm not able to do that because I am a newbie don't know how to edit and use what software to do. If someone can teach me how to do this stuff I can learn it.

If someone can help to do this I'm also okay and the donation I'll give but not really much. (Budget over.)

G751JTTAS have 3 version of bios. 205, 207 and 208. If from Asus Official Driver Download Page.

Hi asabovesobelow,  I hope not to be intrusive with my request but could you please modify the title and description into a request the a mod for BOTH G751 models (JT and JY)? They are the same notebook after all, the only difference is the mounted Nvidia GPU (970m 3Gb on G751JT, 980m 4Gb on G751JY). So the solution for the mod (if there will be one) will be the same for both probably.
I too will donate if a mod can be achived so that G-sync can be activated on our notebooks.

P.S. Asus just released a new bios (209) today!
Here are the latest bios for both G751 models (I think the bios is the same anyway, but I attach both JT and JY just in case  file:

Original Asus G751JY BIOS (v.209)
.zip   G751JYAS209.zip (Size: 2.29 MB / Downloads: 26)

The backup of my flashed Asus G751JY BIOS (v.209) (that is only to be able to compare the original bios to the flashed one, in case the flash process changes something while writing the bios to motherboard)
.zip   Backup.zip (Size: 2.31 MB / Downloads: 25)

My GPU (980m) vBios dump
.zip   980m vBIOS Dump (Asus G751JY 980m).zip (Size: 137.14 KB / Downloads: 31)

Original Asus G751JT BIOS (v.209)
.zip   G751JTAS209.zip (Size: 2.29 MB / Downloads: 7)

Here is another LINK to the Asus forum discussion where it explains how the GPU's in the pre-july 2015 G751's are the same as those on the post-july notebooks, but apparently Asus changed their HW ID so that Nvidia drivers wouldn't activate software G-Sync on the old models (even thou G-sync works fine with the "old" G751 models when using a leaked Nvidia alpha driver modded by a certain Gamenab).

Hi friend,

Here is the last AMIBCP version 4.55 :

http://rghost.net/59893020

Here is a Tutorial to modify AMI Aptio Bios :

http://forums.mydigitallife.info/threads...MSR-unlock

Follow CodeRush Suggestions :

It's certanly not so easy for BIOSes with another menu setup, but the whole idea is the same.
I could also recommend trying AMIBCP to modify menu entries vilibility from "Default" to "USER",
if your menu setup is more complex then a setup above.

I have to flash my image on the administrator commandline using afuwinx64 bios_mod.rom /GAN . . .
Otherwise it gives me a security error (Thanks again CodeRush)

Let me know
Regards

Hi BDMaster!

Thank you for the quick reply. I will try to open the bios, but the guide you posted talks mainly about making available some hidden bios settings, and while that is a good thing on it's own, what we need here is essentially a seasoned bios modder that would be willing to try and mod those Asus G751 bios in order to get our HW ID recognized by Nvidia drivers in order to activate G-sync on our model with official Nvidia drivers (not just the old "alpha" leaked driver modded by "Gamenab").

I know the modder "Prema" already used his skills to mod bios mods for many Clevo notebooks, even G-Sync enabled ones LINK

It would be great if his work could serve as basis for a G751JT/JY bios mod in order to get G-Sync to work.
I remain at disposal in case you need HW ID from my G751JY (and probably asabovesobelow for his G751JT too).

I don't know if it is possible, and how many time/resources the modders would have to spent, but I bet more then a few of us back at the Asus forum would be willing to donate for the cause if it could be achived Wink

Thank you for posting this POST !!!!!
Here is some more info in the matter:

Quote:"Each bios (Aorus, MSI, Clevo, Alienware, Acer, Asus, etc) Include this guid.
AAA99A23-13B6-4C31-BB8B-299E8EC04FA4
This guid include the license/cookie that you need to have for G-sync License check.
This guid also include, the hardware revision, display revision, etc…
Let’s take example of the GPU GTX 980M/970M aka GM204 (new revision)
The first information about this GPU can be found on the guid.
and it start with 751115879849 (This is actually representing the GM204 with updated Device ID aka 1617 or 1618)
For the GM204 (old revision) 13D7 or 13D8 = 700027240010
So what actually the NVIDIA kernel drivers is doing ?.
Check Guid, Check Cookie, Check ID (751115879849 + revision ID), Check EDID panel.
From there, NVIDIA kernel drivers enable or not G-sync, actually every GPU or panel (that follow eDP specifications) are capable of this.

John Carmack was one of the persons that offer alternative with the glx extension to resolve the tearing issues, that is not a issue but more a standard problem. You can try yourself on the game Rage or EvilWithin and use negative one for the r_swapInterval and this is well definite on Wiki OGL
(...)
Tools to modify your bios without problem on Windows exist, for example the well know one called AMI Aptio, provide by AMI itself, also tools like Ubu, after is just a question of know what you are doing and how to deal with algorithm/payload, most of the time bios can be edited with hexa editor

AORUS is evaluating G-SYNC upgrade project for previous X7 models. Please drop us a message regarding “G-SYNC upgrade” at the following link if you’re interested. We will contact you for details once the project is confirmed. Thanks again for choosing AORUS!
