[Request] Bios mod for a compact chinese PC to run VRtdc higher
#1
Hi guys, you seem to have a nice place here Smile

Now my request. I have a chinese compact PC, with a i7 6785R cpu. The problem however is, that it is cut to 45W. VRtdc (Voltage Regulator thermal design current) is triggered when i run all cores.
When i run 3d-games on it, it draws up to 100W tho. But i would like to run it to spec at 65W or even a value i set.

What tool do i need to get the bios from that computer to give it to you? The chinese manufacturer has no bios downloads for that computer. Even contacting was pointless.

They also sell other CPUs in that computer which have the 45 TDP, this is where the 45W limit comes from i think.
Long and short term boost durations can be set in the bios, but to no effect.

It would also be nice to run DDR3 2133 Memory in it. It uses notebook memory.

I hope you can help me.

Thanks in advance guys.

No answer so far.

It is an AMI bios. Are there any general tools to get the bios from this computer, so one of you can take a look at it?

I would really get the 65W cpu getting to work at 65W instead of the gimped 45W. Throttlestop and Intel XTU only show me that it throttles because of VRtdc, but i can not change it anywhere.

Still hope someone can help me. Smile

I finally managed to pull the Bios from the Computer, if anyone wants to take a look at it.

And fine any way to modify the VRtdc value in it.

Still haven't given up hope.

Hi! some questions for you.
1. let me guess ,you should now only see tabs [Main][Security][Boot][Save & Exit] in bios screen??

2.Why you want to playing high loading games on these NUC pc like this?? then search a bios modification?? it's putting the cart before the horse.

3.I found some options related about CPU VR Settings on amibcp but they're hidden now ,i need you to do a test and response me.

Open bios with amibcp(version 5) and do any changes and save then try reflash it.
If no any error happen and boot again normal ,i can help you out to unlock hidden tabs [Advanced][Chipset] ,these VR options were under in Advanced tab.

Hey, thanks a lot for the answer.

1. Yes, I only see these 4 tabs in the bios.

2. I want to run Boinc (distributed computing) on it. Especially the CPU, since the 128MB of ED-Ram gives some nice performance advancements in some calculations. I instantly run into the 45W limit, where a 65W limit should be.
I wanted a Skylake chip with 128MB ED-Ram and that is the only one i could find. No workstations, or compact Desktop computers with that chip anywhere.

3. I didn't use the AMI tools to pull the Bios since it did not work. I used Intel ME tools to pull the bios.
Could you sent me a link of the AMI tools i only found the bios flashing one. I can not find the download buttion on the AMI.com website...

Thanks Smile

Those utilities you can find in internet.

Do you have an hardware spi programer ?
Actual it's not difficult to edit menu ,but i can't sure whether it include secure protect like hp's ras signed.
I know some mini pc or stick pc ,when we flashing the modded back ,it will can't boot and got a black screen.
It's a protection mechanism for bios when someone change it.

So ,for safy you need a spi programer to recover.
Of course you can directly flashing modded at your risk ,if you accept.
