[Request] Dell Inspiron 7537 A10 UEFI (Phoenix SecureCore)
#1
Hello BIOS Mods Community,

I've had bad luck modding the Dell 7537 A10 BIOS.

PhoenixTool works just fine with the modules and all, but I was not able to flash the BIOS with Phoenix WinPhlash or UEFI WinFlash because the EEPROM cannot write to itself. It doesn't work via USB either... I'm hesitant to try an SPI programmer as this has a greater chance of bricking the motherboard.

What I could do:
- I've added an EFI shell as a boot option that allows for Intel processor access as well as NVRAM access.
- Extract the ROM and HDR files from the BIOS installer itself using the ExtactTemp folder in AppData\Local\Temp.

What I am looking to do with the BIOS:
- Unlock hidden settings (I can't figure out which hex code will unlock the menu, so I tried replacing from 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 45 0A to 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 45 0A at the "Suppress if..." parts at the beginning of the PlatformHiiAdvancedDxe module for each menu.)
- Overclock CPU (3.3 - 3.6 GHz) and integrated Intel HD 4400 GPU
- Change fan speed, control fans, etc.
- Get rid of the UGLY Dell UEFI boot logo

My error messages are ones such as:
- Error 28: Protected Range Registers are currently set by BIOS, preventing flash access. (When Secure Boot is disabled)
- Error 201: [FPTw.exe] cannot be run on the current platform. (When Secure Boot is enabled, sometimes even when disabled)

I'm not sure if I'll need to use a SPI programmer or not. There has to be some workaround...

Here are some resources that will help the community figure this issue out:
ORIGINAL Dell BIOS Link (executable): http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER02322766M/1/7537A10.exe
BIOS Pics, AIDA64 and BIOS Write Test Reports (results_disable_secure_boot.rar file has the results for when I disabled Secure Boot): http://1drv.ms/1Sdx9BK
A10 Non-working Mod, Original BIOS ROM/HDR files, and Resources: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6itdekbmhblob...bQaoa?dl=0

Thank you and good luck,
Exec360 *crosses fingers for hope*

Hey effeffe,

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried to flash it on a DOS environment with no luck. Phlash16 says that the ROM file is invalid, even when I rename it to a WPH file. I think there's some kind of certificate or key that the OS (done by Dell) wants in order to be able to flash the BIOS.

You're awesome — thank you for helping the community.

Sincerely,
Exec360
