[Request] HP 3300 Pro MT Bios Unlock/Mod
#31
Hi, I'm noob when comes to modding bios. when I try to edit bios versions for HP 3500 Pro, I get message that the program cannot load the BIOS correctly. Ether, or I'm doing something wrong. I tried different versions, both software and BIOS, but I was unlucky.
All I wanted at this point was to simply disable the annoying "512 rear chassis fan warning" at boot.
I'm pretty sure it's a problem with the BIOS, not a hardware issue.
At the moment, it is over my head at field of bios modding, which is very limited.
If someone could help me in modding one of the V8 BIOS, preferably 8.19 for HP 3500 I would either be deeply appreciated to either ignore the 512 error or enable the option in the BIOS so I can disable front and rear fan checking; it would be even better... I don't know if that's possible... In any case, any help in solving this problem will be sincerely grateful.

From reading this thread a SPI programmer is required to install the 3300 3400 bios 7.16 (the 4mb or 8mb) I have the 4mb rom

However, I was able to upgrade my 4mb from 7.15 to 7.16 using sp58264, the cupertino2 softpak executable. I first tried sp59262 the "Pro3300 Pro3400". that failed.

sp58264 contains cup_716 (identical to sp59262), installer.exe and hpbar3.exe Running the installer I get the error message that the command line parameters are missing. Using a hex editor I was unable to find command line args in sp58264. (

(1) Possibly if I known the arguments, the 4mb could have been flashed using safuwin and avoid the spi tool..

(2) A backup of the bios fails at about 2.9mb so it was not possible for me to save the original 7.15

I tried safuwin backup.rom /O (this got 2.9mb of bios)
also tried fpt -d backup.rom (this got error 23 CPU cannot read protected area "ME")
I tried several versions of fpt from the Intel tool kit then read that I could jumper pins 1 and 5 of the audio chip while booting to enable access to that protected area. https://tinyurl.com/2p93naer (click on second spoiler)
I have not tried that yet but it was for "reading" the bios that is in the motherboard.

(3) if I jumper 1 and 5 can I then write the 4mb file w/o having to use the sp58264.exe or that SPI tool ?

(4) I have a bios i modded to unlock the hidden menu using guide over at MDL, not sure if it works. It is way different than the one that is downloadable here but exact size. Can I somehow edit the sp58264 and update the cabinet to replace cup_716.rom with my patched version?

[EDIT] Pimping my $15 motherboard https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Ha...-p/8192877

Thanks for looking!

I was able to install the un-locked bios and get my gtx-1060 working in the x16 slot.  Did not have to use that programming tool or jumper any pins together

Hi,
this mod is only for a PCIe x16 ?
CPU limits not unlocked ? possible to patch this ?
This is for HP 3300 , last version of 4MB BIOS right ?

other question, models HP 3330 do support 3th gen CPUs and have same chipset H61 and also have 4MB bios , flashed it and boot with i5-2400 without error "not supported cpu" , but CPU FAN RPM is missing. not checked the LAN support , tested i7-3770 and got black screen , strange because this bios supports i3-3220 right ? so it must support Ivy Bridge cpu's , maybe i7-3770 support removed from microcode ? and it support i3 only .

Thank you so much BeemerBiker, I was really worried about bricking my Bios but the update was successful. I just ran the SAFUWINp CUP_716.ROM /p /b /n /r from a CMD window and it updated with no issue. I was a bit worried about the POST screen that came up after reboot and you do have to remember to change the bios without having the graphics card in to set the option to Legacy from EFI. Thanks again.

I managed to add NVMe support to my HP Pro 3400 MT. I followed these steps exactly.
1) Update the BIOS to the latest version available from HP
2) Identify and read the name of the BIOS chip (it will be used for the flash)
3) Use the CH341A programmer + the SOIC8 SOP8 Test Clip (€4 on AliExpress) to make 3 BIOS backups
4) To make the backup, you need to remove the CMOS battery and the CPU. Once the clip is securely fastened, you need to power the motherboard by turning on the power supply by connecting the green cable and a black ground with a paper clip and then connect the CH341A to the USB port of a laptop to be used for the flash.
5) For the flash, I used the AsProgrammer_2.1.2 program, which also contains the drivers for the CH341A (to be installed separately) CH34XPAR.EXE
6) If you have connected everything correctly, pressing the question mark icon will tell you the chip type.
7) At this point, select the name of the previously read chip from the list.
8) With igorware-hasher-x64, verify that the 3 backups are identical.
9) At this point, you must first erase the chip.
10) Then, load the BIOS modified with UEFITool_0.28.0 and, making sure to first select the live verification option in the options, you can now finally flash the drive for writing.
11) Optionally, you can perform a post-flash verification.
12) With an NVMe/PCie adapter (about €2 on Alixpress), you will get boot and about 1700MB/s reading.

Attached is the BIOS modified with NvmExpressDxe_Small. For the modification with UEFITool_0.28.0, once CspLibDxe was identified, I inserted the new NVMe driver immediately afterward.
