How i can add a new CPU microcode and Slic 2.1 to this BIOS?
Please help me.

Hello,

I have an M57p, Type 9164 with an E8400 E0 processor. I'm facing the known annoyances with this CPU (e.g. fan @ 100%).
  • Does anyone know, if the BIOS patch provided above by "big t" on 2010-08-01 will also give remedy to the type M57p / 9164?
  • Can anyone please explain me, how to proceed in detail with the files provided by "big t" on 2010-08-01 ? Shall I copy them to a bootable diskette or an USB stick ? And then, what's next: execute which file with which parametres???
Thanks in advance and best regards,

OliM

Flash the latest BIOS (2RKT64A) with native support of E8400 (E0 stepping).

Hello,

@DeathBringer:

That's what I did first - sorry that I forgot to mention it. I updated my BIOS via 2rj964b.iso from CD-ROM, which installed the latest version 2RKT64A correctly. Indeed, that made the PC at least boot up again, which was not the case with the older BIOS before.

However, the issue with the CPU fan constantly running at 100% remains. I'd like to get rid of that problem, too. Yet not by a software workaround on OS level, but by a BIOS patch.

Any ideas how to cope with that?

Thanks and best regards,

OliM

What's version of your operating system?
Did you tried this: - https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkCentre...008#M14630
Quote:1) Turn off Pc at wall.
2) Take out power cable from back of Pc.
3) Clear CMOS jumper. Take it off the current pins and move over to the other pins.
4) Take out CMOS battery.
5) Put PC power cable back into Psu of Pc.
6) Hold down power button on Pc.
7) While still holding down Pc power button, Turn power on at wall switch(Or whatever the Pc is plugged into)
8) Pc will power up, and then it will go quiet and seem like it is off.
9) Release finger from power button on Pc.
10) The Pc will power back on and keep running and beeping. Leave it for about 30 seconds to a minute. If it resets and does the same thing then fine, but mine just kept running and beeping.
11) Now press and helod down the PC power switch for about ten seconds or as long as it takes to power off.
12) The Pc will now be powered off.
13) Release finger from Pc power button, and it should stay off.
14) Turn power off at wall.
15) Put CMOS battery back in.
16) Reconnect the CMOS jumpers back to original pins.
17) Turn back on at wall. This time DO NOT hold down the power button.
18) Now just let it run, if it resets itself a few times then let it do so. Eventually it will get to setup screen prompt, press F1 and edit the BIOS , set the date etc...
19) Click F10 to save and exit setup.

Hello,

@DeathBringer:

Yes, I tried that, too. Both versions in that thread in the lenovo-Forum, of which you sincerely quoted the second here. Unfortunately, they don't give remedy to the CPU fan issue.

As for the OS, I booted up into a linux CD for testing purposes. But even after half an hour up in the OS, the CPU fan keeps on running at full speed.

That's why I doubt that the latest BIOS (2RKT64A) really provides native support of E8400 in the E0 stepping.

Thanks and best regards,

OliM
