(UEFI) Dell XPS 15z L511z modded BIOS - and HOWTO
I'm just configuring a DAW build for my l502x. I'm reading that disabling usb power mgmt can increase bandwidth, and that 'disabling c-state transition' can prevent errors from processor speed changes.

(assuming this option isn't usually available...) Is the c-state transition option provided with the (unlock menus) l502x BIOS MOD?
Are there any known issues/pitfalls?

If I achieve this, is it possible to control the c-state transition 'per-build' (ie,only enable/disable via reg on relevant build)?

Many thanks

Thank you! I'm looking forward to getting an SSD in this machine!

@jkbuha
Do you happen to have a version of the updated 15z firmware you have on the first page that doesn't include the PLOP Boot Manager? I ask because I noticed that kasar mentioned some trouble with it back on page 177 (https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-U...4#pid77074).

@Jonny-Dell-XPS-l502x
The c-state transition options (there is more than one available) are in the advanced unlocked menus
Prebuilt option state is not possible at the time , maybe latter it will be

Hello,

Could you please advise if it is possible to modify bios (e.g. A12) to run 15z with non-Dell battery inside?

Sure thing - here you go. Standard Network Boot menu.

Let me know how it goes!

If this is not possible I will go for refund and get back with Dell battery. Just curious if there is any workaround.

Thank you for your generous donations to help replace kasar's motherboard - it has been much appreciated by all the team!

UPDATE 20/09/2014: Added new experimental ROM with the following changes:
- Updated Intel VBIOS to latest version v2170 (vanilla); full support for all L511z ports
- Updated Intel Microcode to latest version 0x29; works perfect on Win7/8.1/OSX
- Replaced PXE Boot Manager with the excellent PLOP v5.0 Boot Manager (thanks for the tip @Florin9doi)

Cheers

Thanks - very kind Smile

Not sure what else to include really. VBIOS, Microcode or PLOP haven't been updated since the last release, and I'm quite happy with the level of support we have on the BIOS at the moment. What we *really* need are as follows:

i) Method to unlock the multiplier (even if just for single cores)
ii) Method to update the ME to v8.x (to support IVB CPUs)

Any other suggestions?
