Unlocking Asus P6T bios
#1
In respect to over-clocking i don't want to push the cpu too hard but i've read it can clock in 4.5Ghz relatively stable given the the effectiveness of the cooling system. I ran Aida64 yesterday and the temp range i was getting was between 40-60C after 30 mins or so. I'm going to give Prime95 a run but have read it taxes the cpu too hard. With my i7 950 the temps were getting to 100C after 5-10mins so i shut it down. I ran prime95 for 20 minutes (not too long) with temps remaining at 65C.

With the latest Bios update allowing me to run the W3690 i am unable however to edit AI tweaking options such as CPU-ratio which i was able to do before with the I7 950 on the previous bios (2009). I've heard its much better to run overclocking from the Bios as opposed to software from the OS. Any ideas on how to get that tweaking functionality back?

My first thought when reading your other thread, and as mentioned on the other forum, I think you should update your CPU microcode, mainly to get on version that does not have the uncore bug (uncore locked at x20 multi no matter what you set in BIOS), but it will probably also fix this Ai Tweaker issue.

Here is BIOS with 2015 microcode for 206C2 CPU's

Thanks!

Flashed the Bios. There doesn't appear to be any issues but adjusting CPU Ratio's is still locked...

What do you mean by locked anyway? Is the setting grayed out, or can you not adjust by +/- keys, or direct number input (check numlock if using keypad)?
Did you load optimal defaults? Does turbo enabled or disabled change anything on this, try one way, reboot, then check, then try other way, reboot and check.

Lol! Im such a noob! Big Grin

Yeah The CPU Information/Details are greyed out. I cannot adjust by +/- but direct entry does work. Thank you.

Great! So you can change it now, correct? Hope so, and sounds like it Big Grin

Stick on that BIOS I sent you, it has the fixed microcode so you can actually adjust uncore speed via uncore multi, on previous microcode no matter what multi you set it would be stuck at x20 actual speed. You can check applied uncore speed in CPU-z at memory tab - NB Freqency

Thanks buddy!

Do u recommend any particular settings for this chip?

You're welcome! Sorry, it's been so long since I used X58, I can't really advise about overclocking on it, especially on Asus BIOS since I don't know it very well. You can find plenty of guides on X58 OC in google though, I'm sure you'll find a nice fast setup quickly!
