alternative for thermal grease

Today, I had a little problem. I had to pinmod an old Athlon XP2700+.
After the mod, I put down the cooler and I couldn't get into Bios, the mashine shut down.
In Germany, all Computershops were closed and I forgot to buy a thermal grease...
Okay, I thought, there must be something what I could put on the CPU.
