dell studio 14z seeking core 2 quad support

I have a dell studio 14z with a 730i/9400m chipset. The desktop version of this chipset supports up to core 2 quad. I understand the thermal issues related w a 45w vs 25w

I purchased a q9000 that gets me to bios but never past. It just goes black and eventually turns off. Can never get it to boot from any drive or get to the boot option menu

Have you tried a higher wattage psu? Since it is getting to bios it seems like a power issue. Most unsupported cpu issues just show a black screen or the power led flashes some times and then it shuts down.
