Your board might have a 16x slot and an 8x slot and generally a few 1x slots too. Make sure that the graphics cards in a PCI-E 16x capable slot on the board.

these are my slots, and the things that occupy them. they are labeled the same way as is printed on the circutboard:

PCIE16X 8800GT
PCIE1X (the little one) empty
PCI1 Rosewill PCMCIA adapter
PCI2 empty

also, cpuz says in the graphics interface section, that the link width is x8 and max supported is x16 i have often wondered if this link is shared with something else and therefore not able to be fully dedicated to my gfx card. (integrated gfx or SATA for example)

this is what pc wizard shows in relation to pci express slots (if i did it right anyways)

awesome Smile

also, in pcwizard, my memory slots are labeled:

A0
A1
A2
A3

which leads me to believe that even tho all the documentation states that my mobo should support dual channel, it looks as tho its single only (no B slots)

Administrator Wrote:And please can you post some photos to encourage the users who are having some trouble Tongue and confirm that the OC options are selectable and changeable?

Also , a step by step guide as to what you did would be much appreciated because , as you can see from the length of this thread, a few users have been having trouble flashing the modded bios.

i will try to do this as i have time... but i apologize that it may be awhile... i DO want to fiddle with some OCing, but it probably wont be tomorrow... also, the memory clock option is definately selectable and changeable, its how my mem now runs at the proper speed Big Grin

turtlewrench Wrote:I go in and click the winflash as admin. I click the boot, dmi, and clear cmos buttons. I open the 61AO615, and then hit the update. I say no to the do you want to load it again. The bios update box comes up and sits at zero progress. It doesnt move at all, will sit there for 5 minutes and do nothing. I have to cancel it to get out of it. I will try to load the straight bios from acer again to see if it does anything

something that occured to me, when using winflash as you have described, it gets a little confusing when the update box comes up. you are presented with 2 buttons. one is labeled update, the other cancel. You must press the 'update' box for it to actually update. a bit mislabeled and redundant if you ask me. if you dont press update, it will just sit there at 0%.

Right i found this for you Smile

Somebody had exactly the same problem , except they were using 2 cards in SLI (8x and 8x) and then removed one and it still read 8x

The following comment was suggested :

That's perfectly normal with an nForce 4 chipset. The bandwidth per lane is cut in half when running in SLI. Therefore both lanes run in 8x mode. The card not fitting is normal too. The length of a PCIe slot determined bandwidth. That slot is only an 8x one, which is why it's shorter.

The difference between having both cards in 8x and full 16x is marginal, especially with older cards, even your 8800GTs

A bit of further research also brought up that some motherboards have features to switch off extra lanes when not in use , try running a very graphics intensive game and then checking with pc wizard when the games still running.

As a last resort , theres an option in the bios called PCIE Spread Spectrum which is enabled by default. Im not too sure whats its for but i suppose you could try setting it to disabled if all else fails Tongue

Finally , thanks for the pointer on the winflash utility , hopefully turtlewrench can flash now Big Grin

Kind Regards

(07-01-2009, 12:14 AM)turtlewrench Wrote: From what I have found out about my system it is a foxconn board. They took their MCP61SM2MA-ERS2H board and perhaps changed it a little for acer, or price. Link below:
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/product/Mo...-us0000223

I'll help out a little here on identifying these two VERY similar boards. I currently have the Foxconn board you just mentioned (well, actually mine is the mcp61sm2ma-rs2h, without the e, which uses the same BIOS but lacks some of the ports on the ers2h), and have the ECS board on order. The Foxconn board came as the original one in my eMachines desktop, but that board died the other day, so I ordered the ECS one to replace it (since they were so similar, I am hoping not to have to reinstall Windows or any drivers). I'll have the ECS board in a few days, at which time I'll post side by side images of the two. They are absolutely NOT exactly the same though, as far as I can tell so far.
