[solved] ASUS P5K SE/EPU - AHCI
#61
OK, maybe we only should modify one location instead of both? Please try this one instead, try with EZ Flash first.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/cdqk91

If this does not work, you will need flash programmer to be able to flash/program/use this BIOS. That or you still had not found correct AFUDOS version, I think 4.40 is latest for AMIBIOS8 (4.48 AFUWin for BIOS8), if you need this version or others let me know.

Okey, I got now a "funny" error message:
"Version in ROM file is older than the existing board."

Date of the actual BIOS: 20/08/2010
Date of the ROM that you sent: 10/20/2008

Tried with EzFlash, Afudos 2.29 & 2.38

With 4.12 it shows: "BIOS does not support AFU"

Good news: It's finally reading the new ROM!
BUT

I think we're pretty close to success!  Rolleyes

Sorry, I missed your earlier reply, thanks for bumping!
Did you see my comments about AFUDOS/AFUWin - 4.40 is latest AFUDOS for AMIBIOS8 and 4.48 AFUWin for BIOS8

Did you test the new BIOS in post #61 with EZFlash? What method gave you the date error?

To figure out AFUDOS/AUFWin issue, please flash stock BIOS until you find which one works properly, then only use that one for modified BIOS, then if it gives some problem you know the mod BIOS is the issue.

You can use /N flag to not check ROM ID in AFUDOS 3.xx, similar can be done in AFUWin/AFUWINGUI, check the "Do not check ROM ID"
You should be able to use those methods with the original BIOS from this thread without my edit, once you find proper AFU versions to use.
Here is several older versions I have, randomly selected. I also included several ES versions of the DOS one that support /GAN - maybe some same you already have.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/rzxjy9

Use the command switches like this for all the old AFUDOS >> /iBIOSfilename /pbnc /n << Then if fails, use /pbnc /n /GAN
Example >> AFUDOS /iP5KE602.ROM /pbnc /n << /i (lowercase I) must go in front of BIOSname.rom

Also, you can try Asus Update program, or AI Suite, not sure if both can update BIOS but I know AI Suite can now so probably same back then too
https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5K_SE..._Download/

The BIOS I sent (501 - Asus-P5KSE-EPU-ROM-ID-Change2_KPL-AM.zip = p5k-se-epu-0501_idmod2.rom) has date of 02/15/13, before modification it was dated 08/20/10, no BIOS I sent has 2008 date. So this likely some AFU error due to not correct AFU for this BIOS, or due to it not approving of the mod

Okay, AFUDOS229ES did the job, it flashed the BIOS but the new rom bricked the mainboard...  Big Grin Big Grin
Anyway, thanks for the help!

Maybe AFUDOS bricked the board, not the BIOS? I would assume changing ROMID would not be possible to cause a brick, only cause most tools to error and say no to a "cross-flash"
And modification was done with proper AMI Tools, so any checksums would have been fixed, so I'd bet flash tool/method is more of the source issue here.

Were you able to recover?

Which bios is for the Socket 771 microcode and with AHCI unlocked? And what tools should i use to flash it?
