Change BIOS setting ASUS M2N68-LA motherboard
#1
Hi,

I am trying to install 2gigs (Patriot PC2-6400 800mhz) sticks on an HP Pavilion Media Center m8013w to go with the original sticks 2x1gig originally on comp. When I put in the new sticks with or without the original ones the comp starts beeping. A friend told me I need to change the voltage in the BIOS to 4-4-4-12 2.2v in order for them to work. When I go to the BIOS settings by hitting F10 it doesn't seem like there is a place to change that. CPU-Z shows my voltage to be 1.8v. Is there a way to unlock this BIOS and if so do you think that would fix the problem I am having? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Case

When buying OEM memory, voltages are on of the FIRST things that should be checked, because most of the OEM boards don't support higher than 1.8v. Can you please tell me if youa re actually using the ASUS or an hp OEM version, and can you verify a download link to your BIOS for me to look at.

Thanks,

Hi Wiz,

It is an ASUS motherboard that came with the computer... so I guess you would call that OEM? I am not sure how to download a link so you can view the BIOS. If I knew how I would be more than happy to furnish you one. Do you think I should just do what you suggested in this response? Another thing is that I bought the memory off Ebay...do you think Patriot might still exchange it without documentation showing I bought it from them? I am good at negotiating things like that though. I guess either way it might be worth a shot.

HP was dumb enough to not list the voltage support in the motherboard documentation online. My main cocnern is that even the latest update from HP will not cange anything because of the voltage. So, either the hardware design cannot handle the high voltage ram you have chosen, or you need the BIOS, which at this point looks as if you would have to rik flashing the retail version. Here's my advice first: Call a patriot representative. Tell him/her that due to poor documentation and misleading information on HPs website you were unaware of the voltage specifications the motherboard could handle. Procceed, by telling him you have had a professional reccommendation from us (you can show him this link if neccessary), and ask for an exchange from PC-6400 RAM 2.2V to PC-6400 1.8V @ around 5-5-5-15. Negotiate this with him to get the return on the ram you ahve now, and try to convey that 2.2 is simply not being given my the motherboard. Hope this helps. Reply to the thread or contact me personally with any further assistance.
