Asus M2N68-LA bios help
#11
(07-19-2010, 09:13 PM)TheWiz Wrote: Hey case1,

Looks like you are referring to our bootable usb guide. The Windows 98 zip is a strippeddown bootdisk, which serves as a great DOS image for BIOS flashing. If you ran the hp disk format tool, and pointed it to the extracted folder from the zip, the DOS image is already on the USB and ready to be booted.

Please reply if you need more help clarifying things,

Hi Whiz,

I appreciate you responding to my post. Here is what I am trying to do. I purchased 2 extra gigs of ram (PC2-6400) for my Pavilion Media center m8013w comp.. It already has 2 gigs (PC2-4200). When I install the new ram my comp beeps even if I try to run the new ram by itself w/out the original sticks. The guy at Patriot memory said I might need to update my BIOS. I went to HP's site and they said I have the current version for my M2N68-LA motherboard 5.13 version. It looks like there is a 5.49 version looking at this link:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gener...=en&dlc=en

I tried to download it as ADMIN and it said my comp didn't meet min requirements. I don't have a clue when it comes to flashing the BIOS or if updating the BIOS would even help with my problem. I did manage to download the HP USB format tool. Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Casey

HP was dumb enough to not list the voltage support in the motherboard documentation online. My main cocnern is that even the latest update from HP will not cange anything because of the voltage. So, either the hardware design cannot handle the high voltage ram you have chosen, or you need the BIOS, which at this point looks as if you would have to rik flashing the retail version.

Here's my advice first: Call a patriot representative. Tell him/her that due to poor documentation and misleading information on HPs website you were unaware of the voltage specifications the motherboard could handle. Procceed, by telling him you have had a professional reccommendation from us (you can show him this link if neccessary), and ask for an exchange from PC-6400 RAM 2.2V to PC-6400 1.8V @ around 5-5-5-15. Negotiate this with him to get the return on the ram you ahve now, and try to convey that 2.2 is simply not being given my the motherboard.

Hope this helps. Reply to the thread or contact me personally with any further assistance,

TheWiz
