Biostar TA790GX A3+ unlock 4 cores
#1
Hi there, this is for ... me Big Grin, I just got my new setup based on AMD Phenom2 X2 550 Black Edition with Biostar TA790GX A3+. Seen some of results / news on the net, people have unlocked the remaining 1/2 cores with some Biostar board like TA790GX ... But my board can't do that! I just found that in xtremesystem 4rum show the moded BIOS that can unlock x2 550BE, but, follow this BIOS, when i unlock > have much problem !!! < can't OC in BIOS, just use AMD-AOD only, so boring! > So, i holpe admin can help me mod the bios to unlock 2 "extras" core by "auto" the acc only, no set acc "all cores" and "-2%" like the xtremesystem's BIOS ... thank you so much !!! < sorry for my terrible english, i'm vietnamese Big Grin >

Hello Mate , You Can Unlock The Cores WITHOUT Modding The Bios I Think!

Go to the "T Series" Menu , then to "CPU Tuning"

Find "Advanced Clock Calibration" And Set To "All Cores" (If It Doesnt Work , Try Auto As Well)
Find "Core Levelling" And Set To "Enable All Cores"

You Should Now Have All 4 Cored Detected Big Grin

All the options you need are on that menu though.

Core Levelling and Advanced Clock Calibration - Its obvious what to set them to

oh dear , sounds like the flash failed Sad

AMI has an embedded recovery technique in the 'boot block' of the BIOS. In the event that the BIOS becomes corrupt the boot block can be used to restore the BIOS to a working state. The routine is called when the 'system block' of the BIOS is empty or corrupt. The restore routine when called will access the floppy drive (1.44Mb floppy disk drive) looking for a file named AMIBOOT.ROM.

This is the reason the floppy drive light comes on and the drive appears to be in use. If the file (AMIBOOT.ROM) is found it is loaded into the 'system block' of the BIOS to replace the corrupted information.

To restore your BIOS copy the most recent version of your motherboards BIOS file to a floppy diskette and rename it AMIBOOT.ROM. The diskette does not need to be bootable or contain a flash utility. It will access the floppy from 2-5 minutes the system will beep four times. Remove the floppy diskette from the drive and reboot the computer. if when you turn on the system it does not try to access the floppy, press and hold the 'CTRL' and 'HOME' keys at the same time. This will force the system (assuming the 'boot block' isn't corrupted) to access the flopy and look for the AMIBOOT.ROM file.

Note: 12345678.BIN represents the name of your BIOS.

Step by Step:

1. Rename the desired AMI BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM and save it on a blank floppy disk. e.g. Rename 12345678.ROM to AMIBOOT.ROM

2. Insert this floppy disk in the floppy drive. Turn On the system

3. If no floppy access occurs press and hold Ctrl-Home to force update. Follow insructions on the screen and it will read the AMIBOOT.ROM file and recover the BIOS from the A drive.

4. When 4 beeps are heard you may remove the floppy disk.

5. Restart the computer.

hiz, poor me ... i will try ... i use BioStar mainboard and i saw on the website that this board had BIOS relife utility ... but i don't know how to use Sad
did you test your modded BIOS, Admin ?
quote
#8
Now when i say i tested i mean opened it with the program to check it still loaded fine and hadn't been corrupted.

You cant test properly unless you have the board and you flash it , which is why bios modding is such a risky business.

Not sure about that biostar program , il look into it for you - but in the meantime try using the recovery method that i gave you above Big Grin

Hope your bios recovery goes well!

from what i can gather about the bios relife utility , ist basically the same as what i told you above , but using a usb drive instead of a floppy.
