HP Elitebook 2560p WWAN Whitelist Removal
Hi,

I am trying to use my existing HP un2400 (Gobi1000) WWAN card with my new 2560p but am getting a WWAN Model ID (703) error.

I am using what appears to be the current BIOS F.01 with the 68SSU Family ROM.
Link here

Any chance I can get some help with this?

Thanks much,
boomer

Give it a try if you want, but if things go like previous requesters for similar models the update will revert itself to original after flashing and no whitelist removing will be done.

Just test it. Wink

camiloml, I gave it a try, system rebooted after confirming I would like to update I immediately get a "The System BIOS update failed". Looks like it never attempts to do an update.

Thoughts?

Sorry no, and without a problematic laptop on my hands to make tests is impossible to go ahead on this. Sad

I've read that there are RSA signed HP bios that upon detecting a modded bios will revert to a backup of the previous bios. My thinking is that one way around this may be removing the bios chip from the systemboard, modding the whitelist, then installing back. It might work.

Only problem is you'd void your warranty. A 2560P's bios chip is soldered on the systemboard.

I've listed the 2560P's WWAN/wifi whitelist at http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-busin...ost8069143 .

I believe you should log a case with HP requesting more WWAN cards in there. In the lastest bios they say they've added another card, but where is it? They should also add previous UN2430/UN2400 from the 2530P/2540P. Having 2 WWAN cards in the whitelist is poor form imho.

Another way you could do it is to isolate the two USB transmit/receive mPCIe pins (36/38) and wire them to a non-whitelisted USB port. There would be one available on the docking connector. We don't have a 2560P's docking connector pinout, but the 2530P Owner's lounge has the 2530P one. The 2560P dock is compatible with a 2540P. A 2530P dock is compatible with a 2540P. So likely the USB pins are compatible but the 2540P/2560P adds Displayport. You'd be doing something similar to how a webcam was added to a 2510P via the docking connector's USB pins. See http://forum.notebookreview.com/hp-busin...ost6979360 .
