Clevo M540SR Unlocked BIOS Options & Sub-Menus
#1
Hello. I have a clevo m540sr (M54SR_13.WPH). I wonder if its posible to unlock this bios (options, overclock and stuff). Besides the bios only recognices 3GB of ram (of 4GB I have installed) and only in single channel. For the strings on the bios file i saw on Phoenix bios editor it has the options for dual channel, fsb and the like. Is it posible to unlock this on the bios? I can provide more data if needed. Thanks.

Here is the bios: M540SR

Can you post your computer full specification, including chipset? The 4GB RAM is recognized only 3GB RAM issue most likely because TOLUD register is set too low (Intel 945PM/GM chipset). Modifying value of TOLUD register is complicated. I have not successful in any of my attempt to change it.

If you use my modified BIOS image & you like it, please consider making a donation. Thank you very much. Smile

Ok. Thanks for helping! Smile

------------
I've read on Internet (I think on the microsoft site) that for the 4GB memory, the bios must support memory mapping (or remapping i don't quit remember well)...
Before I actualized my older bios, only 2.5 GB memory were the maximun cos 3GB (either on one slot 2GB and the other slot 1GB or 2GB on the 2 slots) would make like if there were not video driver installed (so i suppose it was bad memory management for the bios cos of the on board video card). Now that actualized to .13 version of the bios, I was able to use 3GB with no problem but doesn't recognizes the 4GB (I'm currently using the 2 slots with 2GB memory sticks, the stick are new, same type and work good cos i tested them separately).

And in single channel memory configuration. What most interest me is the dual channel feature cos i have an on board video card that uses system memory to work (I know it eats up memory but the bios should recognice 4GB despite that). So the performance gain on the hole system would be quite big Big Grin.

I uploaded a picture to clarify thinkg.

And for the options for the FSB and processor multiplier, can you unlock that options? I saw them on the string module on Phoenix bios editor, but i read a few post in the forum that says that Phoenix bioses can't be unlocked. Mine is TrustedCore. Can it be done? Thank you very much for your help! Smile

I'm thinking that one solution for the dual channel problem could be to limit each memory slot to read exactly 1.5 GB (since 3GB is the limit) and that way the dual channel feature would be activated cos of the equal type of memory (size, type, speed, etc). I don't know but, can that be done?.

If you're referring to "Internal Frequency Multiplier", it doesn't work. It even doesn't work with extreme edition processor.

Regarding the 4GB RAM only 3GB usable, this is common issue found on older notebook with Intel 945PM/GM chipset. This is due to the chipset design/implementation & TOLUD register. Even if we able to modify TOLUD register, the amount of usable memory still less than 3.5GB from 4GB. I also unable to find VIA VN896 datasheet (which contain information on the registers).

There is no 1.5GB module. I think the 2 x 2GB memory already running in dual-channel memory.

Unfortunately, BIOS is showing that RAM with 2x2Gb does not run in Dual Channel Mode.

Hmm, I did not notice it too. But from my experience, I would not have expected it to run in Dual Mode, I have the same motherboard VN896, which is installed in my Amilo. I figured out that if your mod would work for his motherboard, it might as well resolve issues with my Amilo Pro v3515

I have not tested with 2 sticks of 1GB or 2 of 512MB to see if there is a actual problem on the dual channel feature or its cutted off cos of the memory limitation. Have you tested yours with 2 equal memory sticks (1GB or 512MB) to see if dual channel would get activated?. I'll try to get 2 equal and see what happens...
Anyway maybe my BIOS could work on your machine since the similar specs.

OK. Can you still unlock the BIOS for its options? I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah, I know. It's the dual channel with this memory stick that I have what interest me the most. It's just that cos of the bios limiting the memory recognition that can't be on dual channel.

I e-mailed VIA requesting the datasheet just now. So I hope maybe there we can find a solution.

Yeah, I know there is no 1.5GB module... I'm meant that just like the BIOS its cutting 1GB of a 2GB module to meet the 3GB limit, (please notice that I tested memory configuration exhaustively and its not problem of the memory sticks nor the slots) maybe with information from the datasheet we can tell the bios instead of cutting 1GB of one slot, that cuts 512MB of each slot so the limit of 3GB still there but now the dual channel must be activated cos of the same amount of memory on each slot. I hope I explaned well, I´m still learning to write in english...

still if you can unlock the BIOS for the options you can find now it would be great cos I´m also interested on the memory timings and pll options if there are any.
Thank you very much for helping me.

I have tried to activate Dual Channel Mode with 2x512Mb and with 2x1Gb, but no luck on that. UnoLock, thanks for requesting datasheets. I will post my specs in the other thread.
Other than that, I cannot get further. Thanks for all the support, guys.
