[REQUEST] Lenovo Thinkpad T410 (6IETxxWW) Whitelist Removal
#1
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad T410, it has an empty slot for a WWAN card, the recommended card by Lenovo is the GOBI2000. I bought a GOBI2000 but it was an HP spare (it was half the price of the Lenovo and I thought would be the same hardware). I had not come across whitelists before. As there was originally no card installed I do not have that part of info, I have added the info of the card I have bought once the machine has booted. I am unsure why it says USB as it is connected to the internal PCI port. I would like to remove the whitelist if possible so I will not encounter similar issues in the future, although my priority is to get this card working. I have tried to read up on how to do it myself but have had no luck. Any help much appreciated.

The card I have is unlocked to all mobile network providers.

-Manufacturer: Lenovo
-Motherboard Model: Thinkpad T410-2537-H77
-Bios revision: 1.28
-Bios Type: Can't find this info in the bios or bios updater!
-Bios Download Link: http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/...uj15us.exe
-Current original card: (none) Lenovo part 78Y1399
-Card to be added: USB\VID_03F0&PID_241D\6&19D2BC7A&0&4

Cheers!
Isn't it possible to mod the card firmware to show itself as a Lenovo/IBM???
Maybe this would be the easier way to get this problem fixed...

I found some information @ FujitsuSiemens saying you need a DMI-Patch with a "special tool" to get it working.

greetz

Sometimes you just have to try to be sure it is not working...

I would much rather that method, if you have any idea on how to do this I would be most grateful. I read some posts about reprogramming chips and I thought that was definitely not for me as I have no experience of such matters.

Cheers

EDIT: FYI here is some info about the Lenovo card, when I browse C:\Program Files (x86)\QUALCOMM\Images\ for the FW there is a HP folder and not a Lenovo folder. Not sure if this helps at all, I am at a loss to what I need to do re flashing unlocked Lenovo FW onto the card.

This is interesting:

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Qualcomm_Gobi_2000

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.w...75433.html

And so I got to a point telling that the card driver is loading the firmware wich maybe can replaced to setup the card as a Lenovo...

Lol I made an edit to my post and forgot to paste the link I was referring to! Blush That thinkwiki page you have linked to is what I was referring to when I said I have the HP folder and not the Lenovo folder.

We must be on the same search path as I also found that IBM link you just posted. I think that is more to do with unlocking the device rather than altering how the whitelist sees it by changing FW. Although I may be wrong.

I'm not sure if it would help if I could get the Lenovo FW folder from a machine which has the GOBI2000 installed from the factory. After reading Vincentas comments in this thread it appears for unlocking at least the FW stored in the Program Files folder isn't very useful:
http://www.dc-unlocker.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1141

I assume I would need an exe to flash the FW to the card anyway. Do you think the only difference between my HP GOBI2000 card and the Lenovo GOBI2000 is the FW?

in deed it is,
and the differences in the FW are only the ID's of the device and the Sub-ID's for the manufacturer...

If I could get the Lenovo files as mentioned here:
Quote:he firmware for this device is not publicly downloadable and currently must be obtained from a windows installation. The firmware consists of 3 parts:
amss.mbn (firmware stage 1)
apps.mbn (firmware stage 2)
UQCN.mbn (formware stage 3) - includes configuration and carrier specific settings)
Default location for the firmware can be found in the following directory:
C:\Program Files (x86)\QUALCOMM\Images\Lenovo

Would they contain the device FW required to rebrand the IDs to Lenovo? And how would I flash them to the device? I wasn't sure if such IDs are stored on the device so it can be flashed via mini-PCI-e or if an individual chip had to be programmed. I can up the HP folder I have containing HP FW if you would like to look at it.
Another quote from this thread seems to suggest the FW is loaded form windows. But at POST surely the device wouldn't load FW from the HDD before the whitelist check? I guess FW to make the device operate is loaded with windows but data is simply read from the device at POST during the whitelist check?

Quote:Unlike almost any other 3g card, the gobi 2000 loads it's firmware from windows, and loads different fw images for different providers

More info here, I am reading through now:
