[Request] Toshiba Satellite L875D BIOS Unlock
#21
I checked the file C8610.FD file in HxD first and saw that it was identical to the original c8610.bin file. Needless to say I am pretty confused since the OP flashed this BIOS and got extra menus. Could someone please explain this? I'd like to follow donovan6000's guide and do my own mod myself to gain experience, and would like to use the already modified file as a check vs my attempt to make sure I don't brick the laptop.

Lol I guess aricart is so good that he can mod bios without even touching them Tongue

Turns out he didn't mod the Windows 8 bios at all. I guess he accidentally uploaded to original one. However he did mod the Winodws 7 rom, which is located in the os2012381b_610.exe executable stored in the skbqv610.exe executable. You'll find that the changs he made were in the SetupUtility module, fe3542fe-c1d3-4ef8-7c65-xxxxxx.

No two bios versions hide the tabs in the exact same way. The tutorial on my blog mentions this, and it's not meant to be a sure fire way of unlocking the tabs on every bios. The bios aricart modded contained a blacklist that prevented certain modules from being initialized. You'll see what I'm talking about when you compare the differences Wink

Cool thanks for the tip. It'll probably be a few says until I try this. Just an FYI the laptop I'm doing this to is a win8 L875D. Hopefully the win7 version is similar enough to follow.

Yes, the modifications are identical for the two versions.

Assuming this would work with any L875D? I have an L875D-S7232.
Is anybody aware whether the whitelist has been affected in this Bios? I am trying to upgrade my a8-4500m to an a10-5750m

Is there a way to have a new bios that allow amd-v virtualization?

Thank you in advance.

Sorry about the necro but did anyone finish this? I'll try and look into getting the Win8 one finished up if not.

Model: Toshiba Satellite L875D -S7332

Reqeuest: I'd like to get all the menus unlocked as shown in these photos here but what I'm really in need of right now is the ability to enable and use VT (Virtualization extensions) so I can get KVM working again on linux.

BIOS: skbqv610.exe

Background info: Some of these laptops (L875Ds), when refurbished like mine or when they come from the factory -I'm not sure- come with a BIOS version 6.30. Under this bios, they have VT enabled and I used KVM to do schoolwork on a virtual machine. So I know that the support for this kind of thing is there (if you dig into the files from the toshiba bios, you'll find it too.)

Saturday, I was trying to fix a firmware bug relating to the system being put into S3 that I thought might have been caused by the incorrect BIOS being put on this laptop (there isn't a version 6.30 listed on the support page.) After I flashed 6.10 on it, VT extensions were no longer enabled by the bios which leaves me in my current situation.

An unlock of the L875D was done here (BIOS-MODS :: [Request] Toshiba Satellite L875D-7210) before but I am unsure as to whether or not those are compatible with my system (Given what I've seen with how the files are setup from toshiba, I believe the ones listed in the thread are but the S7332 is a WIN8 machine and those files were never uploaded correctly in that thread)

If you need more information, I'd be happy to provide.

So I modified the original BIOS files from toshiba and unlocked the menus. Thing is, I'm not sure they work. KVM still reports the virtualization extensions as disabled.

Here's the file if anyone wants to have a look.

I haven't been getting much traction on figuring out why it isn't working so I'll be looking into getting a copy of the original 6.30 bios that was on the laptop. If anyone has a model similar to the L875D series (C870D/C875D/L870D), I'd be interested in talking to you about getting a dump of the bios if you do indeed have version 6.30.
