[REQUEST] HP Pavilion dv7-6b00 Series Whitelist Removal
#61
So I have to figure out how to gather and post all of the appropriate info so I can request mod from you guys. While I'm doing that I'm using my new adapter in the laptop in question as we speak. Actually I'm threading this right now from it.

I had to start the computer with the original adapter in place so the port would be active. After logging into windows, I removed the original adapter(Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000) and replaced it with the new one (Intel Network 7260.HMWG WiFi Wireless-AC 7260 H/T Dual Band 2x2 AC+Bluetooth HMC).

All is good ATM. It's a shame I can't trick the system into reassigning the adapter into BIOS whilst it's running right now.

I won't be restarting or powering off this thing anytime soon so I think I'm pretty safe ATM. Once I figure out exactly how to pull all of the info you guys need I'll post a request.

Thanks guys

Nice job discovering that. Even though it's already been know for many years, it's still good to see new people attempting to find ways to remove/bypass limitations Big Grin

I hate to crush your spirits, but those are RSA unmoddable bios so your not going to have any luck actually modifying them. Until we find HP's private and public keys used in the RSA algorithm, then they'll remain unmoddable Tongue

Is there another bios that I can flash on top of my mine. Something that will work with my Intel MB but gets rid of this annoying Whitelist crap. If I wanted an Apple I would of bought an Apple. Naw Mean?

Is there anyway to disable the PCIe port so it doesn't run the checks in BIOS but I can re-enable it in windows? Just to bypass the checks for the moment.

It has also been my experience that NOTHING is un-moddable. No matter how many barriers are put up, they always have a back door to remove the tedious task of dropping barriers one by one. Same thing happened with PS3 saves and now you can mod them to your hearts delight.

I'm certainly not the bees knees when it comes to this stuff but is there anyway to load the BIOS in a shell within an OS and be able to look at it in use instead of trying to look at it locked up?

You could always do a hardware mod to have a switch disconnect/reconnect all 52 pins on the pic-e mini card from touching the pci-e port. This would require a 52 pull, single throw switch, but I've never heard of anything with this many pulls actually being manufactured Tongue

I've already told you what we need to know to make them moddable. That's HP's private RSA key. Just like with many game console related hacks, the OEM's keys are required to make anything moddable.

I'm not really sure what your trying to say here. So we can already "see" and modify everything in RSA signed bios. The problem with them is that we don't know how to how to "update" them to reflect the modifications that were preformed. This results in the computer failing the verify the integrity of the bios rom when it starts up thus stopping the boot process. So your computer is bricked Tongue

So I've been E-mailing Insyde back and forth and whoever I've been chatting with from there might send me a copy of my BIOS sans whitelist. That would be awesome.

Explained my dilemma about my hardware issue and the fact that I can't use a motherboard supported card that my computer provider doesn't offer me at an exuberant price hike for a little HP stamp on it.

He is looking into removing the list to enable the use.

IF it all works out I'll post it up here

That would be awesome, especially if you have the same BIOS as my HP computer. I'm using the sp55068 BIOS from HP. Attempts to replace it with a modded BIOS have failed so far...

Hello,

Thanks for reading my message. The 2.4GHz band is taken by all the signals in the neighborhood. So I want to move on to a dual band wifi PCIe card. I have updated the bios to the latest version (sp60655.exe , Hewlett-Packard F.1C, 23-01-2013). The system won't start with the new wifi card (whitelist problem). Can you please help me? Is there a modified sp60655.exe? I can't edit the bios.fd file, since the update directory only contains 3 exe files and 1 bat file.
How can I update or downgrade my bios with a version that accepts the intel 7260 AC card? Where can I find the tools?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,
Mark

SP6 not moddable, download a older BIOS in HP site, maybe SP4 or SP5 and link here so that we can mod
