Modify Service Tag on Dell Vostro 220 Mini-tower
#1
I have a motherboard from Dell Vostro 220 Mini-Tower (BIOS version 1.3) that was replaced under warranty due to a on-board network port issue. Dell told me they didn't want the motherboard back. However it is works fine with a network card installed. They told me I could dispose of it myself.

I took the motherboard and purchased new cpu, memory, ect... It works fine. It complains about pressing F1 to continue to boot due to some issues with the white box case and front panel cabling but that is a minor issue easily fixed by disabling some on board USB Headers and making settings in the BIOS to disable certain features such as front audio.

However now I have two computer on my network with the same Service Tag number. Which is also seemingly minor but my network management software inventory gets messed up and since I use the Service Tag as a PC naming convention for computers on my network it is a headache.

I am new to BIOS Modding ect... however I thought after an exhausting 4 day google search with out success I'd reach out here for help.

I have attempted all Dell utilities and versions I could locate to modify the Service Tag on the computer that is using an AMI BIOS. Asset.com (asset /s [ServiceTag] - and the other switches such as /d too) and svctag.exe. I've even attempted using the CCTK too. It seems that although these utilities work for many Dells this one keeps saying the machine does not support Asset/Service Tag.

In a search I came across this forum and thought that maybe a Mod will not only allow the modification or removal of the Service Tag but also maybe even allow certain features or upgrades that I can use on this used motherboard that is now (obviously out of warranty). It is one of my tech PCs now and I use it for testing and learning platform. It just seems to be waste to throw the Mobo away just because Dell says they didn't want it back...

Any help just pointing me in the right direction will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again...
