gateway LX-6810
#11
Please redownload the mod

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/747181/Gateway%2...34s282.zip

http://bios-mods.com/BIOS/AMI/Gateway/Ga...34s282.zip

There are 3 options for the Onboard SATA Mode but they are only identified as 00 01 02 03 so i will have to start guessing

The modded bios above has set 00 as default

Official bios ahs 01 as default

Good luck!

Flash At your ownr isk!

WOW Admin! You are making me happy! Smile I was willing to experiment with those settings when editing the BIOS file myself. This was a very tentative process but I got fed up being so careful and finally BAD-FLASHED the 8-pin pdip fwh with another BIOS file. The chip has now been replaced and is back to where I was before.

I have been working on computers a LLOONNGGG time - probably since before you were born. Now and then I get back into it for some reason so my learning curve has been REALLY STEEP this time.

My results were that nothing changed when using trial and error for settings 0-3. I'm sure your understanding of BIOS files is far superior to mine and I don't know why it's in the BIOS but grayed out and how this relates to the actual mobo and also the Nvidia Raid utility.

OC'ing does not interest me at all. I am just very stubborn and I like figuring things out. AND, I wasn't expecting this problem with the OEMs.
I will try flashing it again with your MOD-BIOS now to confirm the results.

THANK YOU for your reply.

YES! Wink I did redownload and this time I was able to flash your file. NOW the SATA drives are no longer identified as RAID in Advanced Bios Settings. The option to change the SATA Mode is still gray and unavailable, though.

I'm certain I would have checked whether the drives were seen as a RAID array when I flashed my own biosmod but I must have been careless... I modded another compatible BIOS again myself, flashed it, and that worked, too.

So, XP installed easily with the Nvidia SATA drivers on floppy during setup.

I am still amazed. Smile

Hate to comment on such an old post, but I have this computer and was wondering how good my chances were that this BIOS will work correctly.
I really don't have any way to replace the BIOS chip, but really need AHCI support.

Thanks,

PS really sorry for the bump...

I have the Gateway LX6810-01 and I am having a problem changing the SATA mode in BIOS. It is grayed out in Integrated Peripherals and I need to be able to change the mode from SATA to AHCI.

My question is:
Is there any way to use the BIOS setup from the Acer Aspire M3710 (same motherboard) on my Gateway Machine? I understand that the settings I need to change are accessible in that BIOS Setup.

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread but I've been dinking around with this problem for a while. I modded the old version of the BIOS (I don't like the new one because of the fan speed) to enable changing the ACHI/SATA/RAID mode.

Flash at your own risk, but it worked fine for me: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3795407/LX6810_B...Campog.zip

EDIT: Sidenote, this mobo is REALLY slow detecting drives in ACHI mode. Weirdly enough, it's faster to have all of the first four SATA ports filled rather than empty.

Just a warning in case you flash this and think you're freezing in POST. It's actually just REALLY slow. So far everything else is working though.

Better late than never to this old thread.

It worked!! Now the bios setting will switch between sata, ahci, and raid.
Using mini-xp on Hiren's boot disc (started mini-xp with a usb drive already plugged in with Campog's files unzipped and loaded thereon) and using AFUWIN, the 2nd ROM file had the best result -

Just wanted to say thanks Campog, wherever you are, and many thanks to whoever continues to maintain this forum.
