[REQUEST] Lenovo Thinkpad X230 Tablet (GCETxxWW) Whitelist Removal
#41
If Bluetooth is your only aim, you don't need to remove whitelist and get a mini PCI-E combo card.
You should get genuine Lenovo Bluetooth adapter instead (much cheaper and much easier than the method you wanted).

I believe the FRU is the same as my X230 Tablet (60Y3303) - a Broadcomm Bluetooth adapter.
It's very tiny and use even tiny IDC connector near the WLAN card. Cost less than USD 10 and should be very easy to get (look out for one in eBay).

I already tried it, but as I expected before I did that (as the chip is connected to complex Lenovo protection stuffs and other components), the programmer refused. It show "overcurrent error" or so. I realized some have been successful using the clip, but it didn't work for me.

Yes I read that someone to do that give extra current directly to the chip by Power Cord external (Laptop switched off without AC) and It works !
You have to find T530 posts He was first that has experimenting this mod (He patched a bios module too LenovoWmaPolicyDxe) thanking Serg008 too.
But I would say infinite Thanks to Sovem for his efforts and helps to find new solutions and possibilities to bypass every protection and modding bioses !!!
Thanks without You We cannot experiments nothing (Super Extra) !!!

Can I ask what kind of backup is this ? Bios Region or Whole ?
The FPT comand used is FPT -d backup.bin -bios or FPT -d backup.bin ?
Can use this tool to do a test :

http://rghost.net/52417082

Run it as Administrator and upload the result here, please.

Hi,

Manufacturer: Lenovo
Bios Version: 15.21 (GCUJ18US)

BIOS ROM Download:
http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/...uj18us.iso
All the other bios ROM lists for X230 Tablet (3435):
http://support.lenovo.com/ko_KR/downloads/detail.page?&DocID=DS029684

I've been googling for PCI ID of WWAN card but only thing I've learned so far is:

Sierra MC7700, Sierra MC7750 is compatible on X230 Tablet WWAN Card slot
Sierra Wireless, inc. VendorID is: 1199

I'd like to use Sierra MC7710 card and I think it's device ID is 68A2 since
dos screen showed error saying unauthorized network card detected with (1199/68A2) messeage.

RSA signed bios risk duly noted.

I've been trying myself to remove whitelist or just replace compatible DEV_ID with MC7710 ID but failed to follow any instruction on other websites since they're outdated.

The system of X230 Tablet is UEFI and Pheonix SecureCore Tiano™ is displayed during booting and someone says UEFI systems use these so I guess somewhat difference approach required instead of ordinary Phenoix bios ?

I know BIOS gcuj09us for Lenovo X230 Tablet is whitelist removed but
it does not get flashed in my tablet saying "BIOS image file does not match this system". So here I am requesting for latested bios whitelist removed.

I'll post feedback and result and hopefully taken care of.

Regards,

Hi friend,
You have to check your Eeprom Memory Write Status, so use this tool, run as Administrator and upload the result file here :

http://rghost.net/52417082

I will look if You get error 28 or 280 or 201, and I will say how to do to flash or I will mod your bios backup.
I can say that all Lenovo pc T430, 530, 230 etc, have Memory Write Protect so oly by SPI External Programmer is possible to reflash bios.
Look here :

Thanks for reply!

I ran your program and showed: The filename directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. but green Backup-test fully passed.

I tried other BIOS releases from lenovo of version gcu18us(latested) to gcu15us and they are flashed successfully.
But not the version below gcu14us with displaying "BIOS image file does not match this system" warning.

I followed the link you provided and aware of hardware way to flash on my BIOS rom and I'll do the procedure if needed
but buying hardware programmer tools will take several days for me to receive so while if you could suggest any other options
please let me know

Appreciate for your help!

I have already relied to your answer and while waiting for reply tried other instructions such as:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-So...st-removal

(installed Ubuntu Linux OS for the first time and used it)
Found 8086-0085 (Intel centrino advanced-N 6205) on "79E0EDD7-9D1D-4F41....ROM" and replace other lists it with 9911 A268

and still got the 1802 warning message with of unauthorized network card.

According to the instruction i've followed, the ROM image i've altered is
the only whitelist file defining what could be used, so changed it to my
card Sierra MC7710 (1199 68A2) but no problem solved.

I'm concerned if this is even whitelist image file because I erased 8086-0085
(WiFi card that came out with it) but shows no error with installed card.

What could be the reason for that? Should I actually run with physical device to
flash modded ROM?

Regards!
