HP DC7700 CPU upgrade
#11
Does anyone wish to look at the microcode update to see if there is some silly thing they overlooked?

I don't think a moded BIOS is going to make a difference. This system uses the Q965 chipset which I believe only support 65nm processors while your's is 45nm. I'll take a look at the BIOS anyways and see if I can do anything with it (I've never looked at an HP bios yet).

Sorry but my post above was incorrect.  I though you said L5420 (which would be 45nm)  but L5320 would be 65nm.  I'm looking at the BIOS now.

As far as ASUS anyway the Q965 can certainly pull 1066Mhz quad support.  Full Quad Core Support and full support for Q6700.  Which is certainly compatible because I'm even getting post which is definitely a good sign for functional displayable operation...

Maybe we could pull microcode from P5B-VM DO and add to DC7700 SFF...?  Q6700 should have older Xeon L5320 architecture.

This board even supports...

Core 2 Extreme X6800(2.93GHz,1066FSB,L2:4MB,revB2)

P5B-VM DO
  • Intel® Quad-core CPU Ready
    LGA775 socket for Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D Processors
    Compatible with Intel 05B/05A/06 processors
    Intel Hyper-Threading Technology ready
    * Refer to www.asus.com for Intel CPU support list
    * Please update the latest BIOS to support Intel Quad-core CPU
  • Chipset
    Intel® Q965/ICH8DO with Intel® Active Management Technology

  • Front Side Bus
    1066 / 800 / 533 MHz

I was able see what microcode is in the existing BIOS and I don't see 6F7. Unfortunately I was not able to insert any new microcodes. I tried using three different version of Cbrom (185, 195, & 198) and none of them seem to work with your BIOS.

I did find the following thread which may help you out. Apparently HP has a utility to add CPU support. I don't have the time to download it and look at it but maybe it will help you out: http://h30499.www3.hp.com/t5/Business-PC...Wjm4flVhBd

Thank you so much man!! That's awesome as [censored] HP uses a Utility for CPU MICROCODE that's awesome!

By the Way My Intel Xeon L5320 uses Manufacturing process  @  0.065 micron   -   65nm

Could you help with my Dell Inspiron 530S?  It uses Intel G31 which should support 1066 and 1333 Xeon's?  If we can just throw all Xeon microcode from 1066 - Xeon L5320 Support & Xeon E5405, E5450, X5450, X5460 among X5470...

Basically some basic E series core 2 duo's & most if not all Quad Core 45nm and 65nm Xeon's...

Do you need me to get the exact CPU Code Rev ID and all that for the CPU's I need?

Inspiron 530S's bios type was award bios.
I have extracted bios file and flash utility ,then i already injected micro code into it.
