Satellite Pro L870-18R cpu whitelist unlock?

I am posting this here to reflect the response of the Toshiba forums and in hope that this work will help not only I but any others interested in using Toshiba hardware with osx86. Or anyone wanting to upgrade a tired i3.

I have a hm76 chipset Toshiba Satellite Pro L870-18R running the stock i3 cpu. I would like to unlock the bios and utilise this cpu

Intel Core i7-3740QM 2.70 GHz FCPGA988 L3 6 MB 4 Cores CPU 2.70GHz



This is my first foray into Toshiba hardware (and to be honest my last, pretty depressed with their whitlisting of things in the Bios - yuck)



This machine was supposed to replace my thinkpad (size of screen and osx86 supported gpu without using intelhd or worrying about nvidia optimus being unspoorted - hence AMD/ATI gpu).

I have bought all things on a every tight budget as I have very little finances. I am hoping someone would graciously help or give pointers. I am going to - if this is a possible machine to reverse whitelisting - use this thread alongside insanelymac's forums to help any others. I am also going to donate to anyone here able to help with the bios as presently this is just a crippled machine and your forums are my only savior at present.



Thank you in advance to anyone willing to help someone with a disassembled laptop struggling to make a cpu upgrade. With any luck I will be able to use this machine.

Bios Release: 6.80-WIN

Turns out the limitations of the h76 is the 3620QM and not 3640QM, hence it is a user (me) error. I will be returning the CPU and as per the thread in Toshiba Forums, reporting as to whether the i7 worked or not. If it does not work then clearly they did not add support in the Bios for a cpu that is supported.
