Your Eeprom Chip is Write Protected =
Error 280: Failed to disable write protection for the BIOS space!
Only using the Tools (SPI PGM + Clip) is possible to make this job !

Oh! That's sad. So the uefi shell method to modify a variable would also fail due to this reason, right?

Hi mate,
Look into this EFI IFR file and find the Variable to modify :

http://rghost.net/private/8vKznLLgX/9cdc...6d1e90b771

Then Look into FalseClock method :

See the disabled if case at the end?

0x51D49 End If {29 02}
So I basically have to change 0x2A1 to 0x1? But my BIOS area is write protected according to Backup_tools12.
How else can I do this?
UPDATE: Using the efi shell from falseclock's method, the shell never boots from usb, stuck at black screen, so I tried with grub uefi shell, and doing
setup_var 0x2A1 0x01 gives me
offset 0x2A1 is: 0x00
Setting offset 0x2a1 to 0x01
error: can't set variable using efi (error: 0x000000000000001a)

Any idea? Sad

You can only change some Variable Value and It's not Panacea for all issues !
The solution are the Tools (SPI PGM + Clip) but I just said !
Let me know which variable are You interested and I will say how to !
About Black Screen many UEFI Bios are going to stop this working as the developers
are looking us to learn how lock better their wrongs Wink

I don't want to use the tools to program the bios with hardware already. Once this laptop is a bit older, maybe then.

The variable 0x2a1 is the one that seems to determine the state of the "Advanced" menu tab.
Can it not be patched in the original lenovo's bios file and then installed using their own installer?

i just said actually more than usual is disabled into UEFI and Falseclok
not Always is working !
Only by the Tools can be done some modifies more than UEFI has RSA signed
Bios and Eeprom Chip is Write Protected so We can use only few tools to make
these jobs !
I ma sorry Sad

Hello there,

I'm desperately trying to install OS X on my Lenovo Z51-70 since few months. I started the whole thing back again and I managed to sucessfuly install it, but since OSX uses a particular amount of DVMT stolen memory for Broadwell graphics I have to set it up in UEFI to that demanded value to get graphics to work, otherwise it's just a useless toy because it shows up 7MB VRAM.

But, to the point.

I have NO CLUE how I did this, but this happens from time to time, and I mean that if the computer is on, going through many sleep cycles and so on, or is having USB sticks in certain ports, and then when I get to the UEFI i can see Advanced tabs and all the hidden options until a proper shutdown or reboot. After a shutdown or reboot everything goes back to the original state and Advanced tab disappears. What is happening  out there? Does anyone know why does it happen and how to make it happen? Becuase I literally have no idea what I'm doing everytime it shows up.

Best regards,
Christopher
