This is a requirement for old Dell bioses not containing a full SLIC table already:

How To Create An RW Everything Report

Download and Install RWEverything from one of the following links:
http://jacky5488.myweb.hinet.net/
http://jacky5488.myweb.hinet.net/bin/RwV1.4.7.zip
http://slics.myftp.org/Tools/RWEverything1.47.rar

Open RWEverything.

After RWEverything Opens, click ACCESS - ACPI Tables.

When ACPI Tables opens, click anywhere within the ACPI Window.

Now click CONTROL + F2 to save the entire table.

Save this Report to the desktop WITHOUT CHANGING THE NAME and either attach this file to your post or upload it to one of the following:

http://www.box.net or http://www.mediafire.com or http://www.sendspace.com

If you upload your RWEverything Report to one of the 3 host servers above, post the download link of your RWEverthing Report in the Post of your Mod Request.

Below is the preferred method in which to post your mod requests:

-Manufacturer:
-Motherboard Model:
-Bios revision:
-Bios Type: Phoenix BIOS
-Bios Download Link:
-RW Everything Report Download Link:

Here you go , i used Dell 2.1 SLIC + Certificate Included:-

1. Copy and paste ******.XRM-MS certificate file into C-Drive.

2. After pasting this file into C-Drive, go to START - ALL PROGRAMS - ACCESSORIES - COMMAND PROMPT. Right click on Command Prompt and RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR.

3. When Command Prompt opens, type at the prompt: slmgr.vbs -ilc c:\********.xrm-ms and hit the Enter Button. Wait for the Script Host to answer you with a message that the license was installed successfully....this could take a few minutes and so be patient.

4. After receiving the message that the license was installed successfully, type at the command prompt:

slmgr.vbs -ipk *****-*****-*****-*****-***** (Replace with any OEM SLP Product Key for your installed version of Windows 7 , they are not hard to find).Be Patient and wait for the message to say that the Product Key was successfully installed. After it says successfully installed, reboot the computer.

5. When you are back at your desktop, go to START - COMPUTER - right click on Computer and choose PROPERTIES and see if it is activated with an OEM product ID.

Oh man, I really screwed the pooch on this one! I tried to flash this BIOS to my Inspiron 1720 and now all it does is power up, spin the HD, and just stare at me with a black screen! Is there anything I can do or am I totally f****d? Does it have something to do with the ACPI table being different?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Ah , sorry to hear about that , ive removed the mod - sounds like you hada bad flash. I did find the following recovery procedure to try though

You can have a try as below:
1. Download the BIOS file from ftp://ftp.dell.com/bios/;
2. Run the exe file with parameter "-writehdrfile", a file xxxxxx.hdr will be there. (Use CMD)
3. Copy the .hdr file to a formatted floppy disk.
4. Remove the battery and AC Adapter from the laptop;
5. Plug the usb-floppy with the disk you just prepared.
6. Holding press the "END" key on the keyboard, plug the AC Adapter, then you may find that the battery light is on with red. Then release the "END", you may find the laptop is power on.
7. Waiting ....... you may find the floppy is working on, while no any info displayed on the screen, just waiting again.
8. If laptop is restart automatically, it means that the recovery is successful.

good Luck

Wow, I don't know what to say, it worked perfectly, my system is in proper working order again. You must be a wizard to reply so quickly and have the right answer on the first shot. You have my utmost respect.

Considering there appears to be a way to recover from a bad flash I'd be happy to test another mod to see what went awry.

To me, the only thing that makes sense, considering that's the same A09 BIOS I used to upgrade the main system BIOS a while ago, is that the ACPI table between his model and mine is different.

I have attached my ACPI table to this post. It was saved using the procedure above with RW Everything.
