Asus Rampage III Extreme ZioMod Bios (Latest: 1601_S17)
(01-05-2014, 07:52 PM)ZioGTS Wrote: I couldn't resist and flashed it... Smile
I tested it running a full set of benchmarks, both with 12.9.0.1001 drivers and with the new beta 13.0.0.1072.
Results were not encouraging with the 12.9 driver, but... WOW! With 13.0 driver I got one of my best result in all benchmarks! This combo is second only to ZioMod_S04 (the best in my system, v11.5.0.1582 OROM coupled with v11.5.0.1207 drivers). I also abandoned v11.5 performance combo because of instability issues, something was wrong there. If stability of this v13 series is comparable to the previous v12 series, we have a winner!

lol, there ya go. I could not care any less about performance benchmarks, I just want Windows to feel as stable and fast as possible and I only seem to get that using the very latest OROM and Drivers in the upper 12's. Even the setup with working TRIM did not provide the "feel good" Windows feeling I get with the 12.7's on the 12.9 drivers. I will give the 13's a try. Maybe they will like my SSD's even more.

Glad you got a great result. Wish I had time to try them but I'm working right now unfortunately. Thanks again Zio I will let ya know how it works out.

P.S. What benchmark app did you use?

EDIT: OK, I am on the new v13.1 OROM and the newer drivers. Thanks ZioGTS, I will try and do some sort of testing here soon. For now Windows is still working. lol

AS SSD, Anvil and ATTO. The most reliable IMHO is Anvil.

I read somewhere that it's best to redo the arrays with the 13 series because of new techniques the orom is using to create them. I think it was a thread over at the gigabyte forums who suggested that until we do we will be missing new features. Until I see release notes I don't know how much truth there is to that assumption.

10 hours later and the computer hasn't blown up yet lol.

Ok stability seems to be all over the place when copying from my C300 array to anything outside of the machine whether that be the NAS box or a docking station. Once I can get everything off the arrays I am going to try a fresh creation of the arrays, install a fresh copy of Win8.1 and the latest IRST drivers. If the stability has not improved I will go back to my previous setup and see if the stability is the same or better. I hope I am not finding a bug between this OROM and my C300's. Maybe I should try some heavy transfers to and from the Samsung 840's as well just to rule out a problem with the OROM or drivers.

Which kind of stability issues did you experience?

I am transferring data, about 50gb to the NAS this morning and its going up and down from 108 MB/s down to 0 MB/s. The same thing is happening when I am transferring the entire contents of my C300 array to my WD Black hdd that is docked via eSATA. Instead of a nice smooth straight line in the transfer window it looks more like a graph of the Colorado Rockies lol. Yesterday, I was seeing near perfect straight lines. Not sure it has anything to do with the OROM though. Not until I can find some time to test and right now I am very busy working unfortunately. Maybe later tonight...

Zio, do you have anything in the 40gb (give or take 20gb) range you can move from the array to something external? If so, please do a test and let me know how smooth the data traveled. Thanks

Ok well I think I fixed my issues on v13 for now. I re-installed Windows clean but before doing that I used parted magic to test the ssd's. I have something going on with one of my C300's. It's running great now though so maybe the fresh array created by v13 was important after all. It has almost 17k hours on it so it's getting old.

Got almost a 5k score out of Anvil though. Wish I had two more Samsung ssd's because this board used to do 660 MB/s with 4 Vertex's.

Ok it's the next day and everything is running smoothly so far. Transfers are great to the server and much more stable now. I'm happy with the new bios. Thanks ZioGTS
