Sabertooth X58 Bios mod
#1
Hi,

Could you please make a update of the last asus bios 1201 with the last Marvell SATA3 Controller Firmware (1.0.0.1701)

I have a problem using a Corsair SSD FORCE 3 with this controller.

You can find last mainboard bios and the last marvell firmware at these addresses:
ftp://ftp.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1366/S...S-1201.zip

http://www.station-drivers.com/telecharg...s.com).exe

thanks,

Marcello

Sorry but I do not feel comfortable updating the firmware in the BIOS from that link because it is in a different format. The E6 module in the BIOS is a lengthened (mostly by FF bytes) version of the LOADER and I assume the E7 module is either just PROGRAM1 or PROGRAM0+PROGRAM1 but I think it's too risky for me to play around with this myself. You should be able to make your own bootable disc and update it manually. Though I'm not sure why you'd use Marvell over Intel... Even if your Intel board has only 3Gbps ports, it still has better random performance than Marvell.

Feel free to use/link/host any BIOS I post, no credit necessary. However, this is at your own risk and I take no responsibility. Always keep a backup of a known-good BIOS. Don't flash a motherboard if you don't have a backup computer just in case.

Always use RAID mode. RAIDFix

I think the latest released BIOS for the Sabertooth X58 is version 1304

ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA136...S-1304.zip

I was going to make the same request as you have presented, but for 1304

Chard

I've got a RevoDrive and I've been using it alongside the onboard Intel RAID for a while now. However, in prep for a CPU upgrade I decided to upgrade to the latest BIOS (yes, yes, I know - if it ain't broke don't fix it... esp. with BIOS updates). In doing so, I've apparently screwed myself out of the above setup.

Now, I get the error message about not enough space for the option rom [07:00:00]. This message goes away if I disable the Intel RAID (at which point I again see the RevoDrive's option ROM screen after POST). But I need both! Sad

I tried going back to BIOS ver. 1006 (was running that before the upgrade to the latest), but after downgrading it still shows "H:2 B:26" on the ezFlash screen (before it was "H:1" something), and it won't allow me to downgrade any lower than 1006.

I've tried a custom BIOS with version 10.5.1.1070 of the Intel option ROM (vs. the 10.1.0.1008 in the default BIOS), but got the same error.

MAIN QUESTION: Is there a version of the Intel Option ROM I could try that uses the *smallest* footprint while still working with the X58/ICH10R?

Try disabling any additional controllers e.g. JMicron, Marvell. If that doesn't work then you'll have to try 10.1 which won't have 3TB support but is otherwise good.

Yup, tried that. Even disabled LAN, HD Audio, etc. - still no joy.

Like I said, 10.1.0.1008 is the version that comes with the stock 1006 BIOS from ASUS' website, but even that version still throws up the same error.

I might try it again, as well as clearing CMOS (which I'm pretty sure I've been doing after every BIOS version I try), but I definitely rebooted countless times, disabling various options each time (without any luck).

It wasn't very encouraging to hear the initial response back from ASUS tech suupport either: "I had asked the supervisor but he has not heard of your issue." :/

10.1 is pretty small at 85KB... 8.9.0 is 77KB and that's the earliest I recommend, but yet it's barely smaller. Asus will probably need to fix it...

See, I'm going to go ahead and showcase my ignorance as far as BIOSs go and say that 85KB seems far from "pretty small" to me considering that the Option ROM space is limited to ~128K, meaning the Intel controller takes up over 66% of the space available. Sad

EDIT: Seems like I was indeed showcasing my ignorance... perhaps the Intel Option ROM requires 85KB up front during initialization but soon after releases some back to the motherboard?

Just cracked open the ROM file for BIOS 1006, and it looks like the sizes are:
  • Intel 82801 SATA RAID Controller [8086:2822] - 50.6K
  • Marvell 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller [11AB:4364] - 33.8K
  • Realtek RTL-8110SC/8169SC Gigabit Ethernet [10EC:8167] - 24.6K
  • Marvell 88SE9123 PCIe SATA 6.0 Gb/s controller [1B4B:9123] - 17.3K
  • JMicron Technology Corp. JMB362 AHCI Controller [197b:2362] - 8.9K

I'm guessing at this point the ball is in ASUS' court to better optimize their use/loading of PCI Option ROMs. I'm also guessing that ASUS isn't going to care enough to ever do that.

Any idea if there would likely be a problem loading 8.9.0 with a live RAID5 array connected? In other words, should I be worried about the array getting FUBAR'd?

Either way, do you know where I'd be able to download the module files for the Intel Option ROMs? I've got MMTOOL V3.19, and I'm guessing I could use that to create my own BIOS ROM, correct?
