ASUS P5E3 Deluxe BIOS 1502 RAID Request
#1
Hi,

I have a problem with a my vertex 2 60GB SSD drives in a RAID 0 Array.

When I boot my PC from shutdown (not a restart) the intel raid controller does not see the drives and the PC does not boot. If i use f8 or restart my PC the drives are picked up and all works well.

I have looked carefully about in the OCZ forums and i understand this is to do with the fact my motherboard BIOS uses:

Intel ROM v7.5.0.1017 ICH9R and it needs to be updated.

From my understanding I need my BIOS modded to use Intel ROM v8.5 (or v8.9 but I think things get bigger after 8.5 not sure if it will work with my MB).

Is anyone able to MOD my BIOS to include a version 8.5.x.x that should correct my RAID 0 problems?

My motherboad is an ASUS P5E3 Deluxe, using BOIS 1502.

I have attached a copy of my BIOS.

Many thanks.

Two for you to try. One with 8.5, which is probably the latest that will work for you since the older Asus BIOS releases only supported up to 64KB files and 8.5 is the smallest that fits that. I think your BIOS is probably old enough to have that limitation. You actually want at least 8.7 for a SSD, I believe, but 8.5 will be better than 7.x.

The other is 9.6 so that you can give it a try if you want. If the BIOS won't work with it then you won't be able to use RAID mode until the older version is flashed, so I'd just keep both on your flash drive and try the 9.6 one first.

Both have JMicron JMB363 upgraded to 1.07.25

EDIT: 9.6 confirmed working below by OP. 8.5 removed as it is thus useless.

Feel free to use/link/host any BIOS I post, no credit necessary. However, this is at your own risk and I take no responsibility. Always keep a backup of a known-good BIOS. Don't flash a motherboard if you don't have a backup computer just in case.

Always use RAID mode. RAIDFix

[edit] Thank you very kindly, I shall try the updated BIOS and let you know how it goes. [/edit]

-----

Well I can confirm my pc has rebooted after flashing your 9.6 modded BIOS, I shall reinstall windows on RAID 0 and see if it can boot my SSD drives from a power off state.

Being no expert I am assuming that since the BIOS booted the PC, everything 'should' work... I can see the intel rom 9.6 confirmation when i activate the RAID option too Smile

Once more, many thanks, I will update this post as soon as I have reinstalled and tested.

You wouldn't be able to even boot on RAID mode if your system didn't support that version of the OROM, so you're good.

I can confirm that the following moddified BIOS for an ASUS P5E3 Deluxe mother board, as attached previously in this thread works and has resolved my initial problem, BIOS: p5e3-asus-deluxe-1502-imr96-jm10725.rom

I have not tested BIOS: p5e3-asus-deluxe-1502-imr85-jm10725.rom

My SSD Drives are now detected successfully in a RAID 0 configuration and boot Windows 7 64bit Ultimate from a powered down state as well as powered up restarts.

I can not impress just how grateful I am for your help Dansolo.

Thankyou.

Hi folks, sorry for the thread revive. I have almost exactly the same motherboard (Asus P5E3 Professional), and this is the second time it's stopped detecting my SSD. The first time I assumed was a bad SATA cable, as I used a new one to "correct" the issue (I think I just got lucky), tried a new SATA cable once again as it stopped detecting my SSD this evening (once more), and no luck this time. Blush

When I load this BIOS into EZFlash, the utility tells me the new bios is NOT supported by my motherboard.

Help?

I have a P5E3 Deluxe. I have try it and working but if you set the Jmicron in AHCI or RAID (I want Raid) it takes about 2 minutes and finally doesn't detect my ssd disk. With previous- original version of JMICRON 1.06.69 doesn't have this problem. So if you can post the 1502 BIOS with only Intel 9.6 updated will be great. OR with JMICRON 363 updated to a newer version because i want to use it to build a RAID with 2 ssd.

Thank you

Hello,

I have just registered to download and try the modded P5E3 Deluxe BIOS by Dansolo. I too can confirm that it is working with the Intel Option ROM 9.6.x.

However, my problem is different. I want to use HDDs with more than 2 TB capacity (3TB to be specific) and just realized a few days go that this isn't working with the latest ASUS BIOS. Unfortunately Option ROM 9.6 doesn't solve the problem either. According to my research so far it appears that I need Option ROM 10.5 or greater to access HDDs > 2TB (but possibly below 11.0, since that no longer supports the ICH9R).

Before I continue my search for the correct Option ROM: Is there anybody on this Forum still active and willing to update the Intel Option ROM of the 1502 P5E3 Deluxe BIOS? I'm willing to donate a few $/€ for your efforts! Smile

Dear Aerospike,

It's been so long i do that updates....
I still have many bios version for this motherboard. ASUS P5E3 Deluxe.
Latest bios from ASUS was 1502.
So i took this version and with lot of search on this forum and more i created several editions with updated versions of intel ICH controller.
11 version is also supported by ICH9R that this motherboard has but intel doen't say it anywhere.
After many flashing of my motherboard i found that the best performance version is ROM 11.2.0.1527 with driver version 11.2.0.1006
I flashed this motherboard with 10.1, 10.6, 10.8, 11.0, 11.1, 11.2, 11.6 and 12.7
After each flash i also updated driver version on the system. Lot of work... took me few days and several windows format...
I kept 11.2 version for long time but later i removed the SSD raid (this is why i updated the ROM) and i return to the official 1502 bios from ASUS.
(I removed RAID SSD as TRIM is supported on 9.6 and later but not on RAID volumes created with SSD).
Your problem is not SSD-TRIM related so it is ok.
I still have this ROMS on a external HDD if you want i can upload them on sendspace or something as it is 2MB each....
On all my versions the Jmicron bios is the original unmodified edition 1.06.69. Some editions may have the 1.07.28 that i found sometime later and was working well with AHCI.... [because of a small detection problem with 1.07.25 in AHCI.(see my post above)].
After flashing with version 12 performance was very very low and i had a problem with the drivers not able to return back to previous edition because intel has change something on the 12 drivers and i had to format my windows..... i don't remember clear, it's been so long.... So i flashed again with 11.2 and format. Smile
10 and 11 versions are all work great with ICH9R controller.
Note: i only had tested the controller in RAID mode on bios settings because i wanted to create a SSD RAID but i think AHCI will work the same.

Kind Regards
