Acer Aspire E380 R01-B4
#21
Well if he comes back I will chack. I have spent 12 hours on this and it wont go for me. I have read several guides removed the red jumper, maybe I should put it on clr cmos? I dont know. I shouldnt of ordered a fan and ram for the board guess I can send them back. Was just hoping it would work for me. maybe I can learn to make a boot disk and try that. still think it is because notepate is opening the bin but I dont know what to do to get the system icon back on it, oh well.

Thanks again

And I never got that warning it just goes to the progress box and doesnt move off of zero
#22
the icon you describe has nothing to do with anything it just means theres no proper program installed on your computer to open bin files so it opens with notepad instead. Doesnt matter though as u dont have to open it Tongue

going to bed now will help you tomorrow

Kind Regards

OK thanks take a day off if you need to. No worries. I still am looking for a copy of vista 64. I have the key but no disk, lol.

I think have the same board,I think its made by ecs, ecs MCP61PM-AM used in acers gateways packered bell "http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/index.php?i=spec_MCP61PM-AM&ppn=PB82113801"and emachines. it even looks like a ecs board - the purple pcb, the print on the pcb is the same font. could be wrong, got a few modedd bios ill try when I find my eprom programmer...

Great Things , those eeprom programmers , trying to find a good one cheap myself

Let us know your results mate Big Grin

Still pondering over this , seems to have attracted quite a lot of attention!

From what I have found out about my system it is a foxconn board. They took their MCP61SM2MA-ERS2H board and perhaps changed it a little for acer, or price. Link below:

Heres a silly question should I upgrade to the R01-C0 bios first? Well I tried and I get an onboard bios not award. Other times it loads up winflash. Both times I use run as admin. Also when I load it up and try to program I still get the progress box that does nothing, just sits there. I left it up for 40 minutes today while doing stuff around the hose and it didnt move.

Id take a sensible guess that your using vista. You get the "onboard bios not award" message if you dont run the program with admin Privileges (Right click and select Run As Administrator)

Id recommend R01-C0 over R01-B4 as it is more recent and probably fixes bugs from the previous bios. However , please use my modded R01-C0 above as this also has its overclocking options where as the default R01-C0 from Acer does not.

I dont know why it wont flash , but i wont give up !!!!! Smile

Maybe you should post me your computer lol Tongue

Kind Regards

I have a t180, look on the motherboard under the cpu socket right under were it says ht 2000 the little white sticker on mine says mcp61sm-am rev 1a go get gpu-z and cpu z switch to ur on board video and run gpu z it will tell u the on board nv video is a pci ecs nv card, then fire up cpuz and click the mother board tab and it says Acer EM61SM/EM61PM and the foxconn board look at the close up the sata ports are in a different spot and so are those serial port connectors. http://bayimg.com/FAbGFaacO

my board and ur board are the same Smile

WARNING TO ALL USERS : DO NOT , UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , ATTEMPT TO FLASH A FOXCONN BIOS

You have a 90% chance of permantly bricking the motherboard!!

Always use bios updates from your oem manufactuer!
