Alienware M15x

The 6970m works in the M15x... The Dell version of the card seems to work flawlessly, the one from MXM-upgrade has a problem with the fan control... you need to set the fan manually atm, however, it performs greatly so far.

But back to topic... a M15x BIOS with more functions would be great of course Big Grin

Since you have already unlocked the Alienware M17x R2 Bios I presume there won't be big differences with unlocking the Alienware M15x Bios.

The main issue we are having is that after upgrading the system with the AMD 6970m the bios does not recognize it (except the cards coming from Dell) and we need to run external software to make the fans work properly.

Check this thread to see how many of us we are experiencing this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienwar...tions.html

Can you guys please have a look into this Bios and see if it would be possible to add AMD 6970m support? Let me know if you need anything.

Thanks a million

Any news about the M15x BIOS? It looks very similar to the M17x r2 BIOS, would be great to have an unlocked BIOS.
I'd be willing to test the BIOS in case you have something to test, I should be able to reprogramm the BIOS chip in case it goes totally wrong.

HI ,
i have some good news for you Big Grin
i have read this thread today and decided to edit this bios Big Grin
i was free for 3 hours today and i have modified the bios
.rar   ALIEN WIRE M15X MODIFIED BIOS.rar (Size: 1.04 MB / Downloads: 145)

- In this modified bios , you would find unlocked sata options , pci , thermalcontrol , QPI for cpu and memory and the IGD sub-menu. ( roughly the same options for M17X-R2 but the only difference is that NO FREQUENCY RATIO OPTION IS FOUND IN THIS BIOS ! )

you would find all these options inside the advanced and performance menus .

just flash this bios using the tool which comes with the original bios file OR just read the alienwire M17X-R2 thread here to knew the flashing method http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Al...OC-Options

also the crisis disk is found in the alienwire M17X-R2 thread as well as the recovery method.

i`m waiting the feedback after trying the modified bios........ALSO I`D BE GRATEFUL IF ANY ONE UPLOADED IMAGES IF THIS BIOS WORKS WELL .

Ok, flashed it successfully, biggest changes are that there's now an IGD - LCD Control Sub-Menu and a SATA Control Submenu (including PCI Express Control Sub-Menu and PCH USB Control Sub-Menu)
What's really interesting is that there's an option for enabling port multiplying on for eSATA, but I don't have a device to test whether it works. According to Dell it isn't supported.

Unfortunately no sign of thermalcontrol and QPI for cpu and memory and also the "Performance" Menu of the standard M15x BIOS is gone, it allowed to change the clock mode and RAM voltage. Also the SATA hard drive and optical drive options in the "Advanced" menu are gone.

Here are the pics of the modded BIOS:

And here are the pics of the standard A09 BIOS, I only uploaded the ones that are different, the first pic shows the overview of the "Advanced" tab, comparing it to the modded you see what exactly changed. Pictures 2,3 and 4 show options that aren't available anymore with the modded version.

ok , i understand this issue .
can you just wait only 30 to 40 minutes and i will upload another bios image which will show the performance menu ( i have unlocked the QPI , cpu , memory inside this menu but it seems that i have forgot to link it to the options )
just wait and i will mod it now and nice to hear that the bios is working well .
please wait and thanks alot for the pics Smile

Regarding eSATA Port Multiplier, be careful when trying it because data lost/corrupted will occur. If your notebook use either PM55 or HM55 chipset, Port Multiplier is not supported.

If you use my modified BIOS image & you like it, please consider making a donation. Thank you very much. Smile
