Hello ccrash,

I also own a single Samsung 830 SSD. I did many tests and you'll also find many on the web.

Don't waste your time with the Marvell 9120/9123 6G, it's just a real crap, even if you update it. Wink

The Intel ICH10R Sata 3G is simply better, specially for the write speed.

Thank you.

At the moment im using ZioMod_1601_S02_SLIC you can find it at the first page , i just followed fernando instruction on how to flash new Bios Raid ROM on this already moded driver , you can find the information and easy explanation how to do it yourself here: http://www.win-lite.de/wbb/board208-spec...ward-bios/

*** Updated My Post Number 113 with my findings and conclusion after extensive testing and data collection with Regards to Trim and or Garbage Collection on W7 x64bit , a big yes it is working.

>>> UPDATE <<<

I just uploaded the new ZioMod 1601_S03 with latest Intel ORom v11.5.0.1414, after extensive tests on my rig. It's stable and rock solid, and gave me satisfactory performance results. I just decided to switch my single SSD from Marvell to Intel to feel the difference by myself, and I definitely agree: Marvell controller is just a piece of crap when compared with Intel ICH10R, even if the former is "labelled" SATA III and the latter is just an old SATA II... I also benchmarked the difference between Intel RST drivers v11.2.0.1006 and v11.5.0.1207, and I vote for the newest one.

Hello there,

First, thanks for your hard work. X79 being what it is.... I'm sticking for a while on X58 and I'm glad your work brings much needed updates to the platform.

As for Marvell's crap, there's SATA 6 Gb/s on the paper but... well your benchs point the problem.

I've been running the S02 modded ROM with latest Intel RAID ROM and the more recent S03 with no issues so far. One crash of IAStor.exe at shutdown but... (11.5.0.1207).

As for performance, I didn't notice any significant decrease or increase after upgrade on my AHCI and RAID 0 volumes.

Just so you know Intel RAID ROM .1414 + Intel RST 11.5.0.1207 are supposed to bring support for TRIM on RAID 0. Few websites confirm that even if Intel is still looking up for a statement. The only thing I haven't figured out is if Windows 8 is needed for TRIM support on RAID 0 volumes.
