Yes i tried to boot the pc with this cpu, it did not post. when powered the pc starts with a yellow power indicator then would normally shutdown and allow the machine to be started displaying a blue power indicator. when it i7 was inserted the pc did the usual power on with yellow indicator but will not allow me to power on again. pressing the power button does not do anything. it also takes much longer at the initial power on state than with the factory cpu installed (i3 3220)

I am currently working on borrowing a motherboard to double check the cpu is ok, but it is very unusual for a cpu to be dead in my experience

Current BIOS has microcode for i7-2600K.
You can try to flash BIOS A09.

Hi bios-mods community!

I'd first like to point out that yes I've see the thread where it's explained, that the Dell optiplex 3010 supports the xeon e3-1240 but does it support more types of xeons? Like the 1220, 1230 or the v2 series of those same xeons? Do those actually support xeon processors or isn't there any support for those cpu's? I know there's no "official" support stated on Dell's website, but maybe you guys can help me find out.

Thanks again for helping me out (even if you don't answer this thread). Big Grin

Thank you, DeathBringer, you are the best.

The idiots at Dell Community Forums told me it would not work/not compatible.

I'm in the process of building a junkyard gaming pc with cheap secondhand parts as a bit of a project. I'm basing it on an old Dell Optiplex 3010 mini tower. I bought it with an i3 3220, a 4 GB stick of ram and a 500gb hdd. I have an i5 3470 and an additional 4gb stick to put in it and I'm awaiting a gtx670, an ssd and a decent PSU to arrive.

I hadn't considered putting a Xeon in it, but I am now.

I was wondering if you could tell me if the motherboard in these would support a Xeon E3 1270 V2? If so, would standard non-ecc ram work or would I need ECC ram? Would the motherboard support ECC ram?
