GA-EP45-UD3P rev1.6 for 3TB drives
#41
You may want to check if your Seagate 3TB hard drives need a firmware update. If you own the ST3000DM001, its listed at their web site. A firmware update may solve your problem.

I've plugged into my GSATA and Intel SATA ports with 3TB and 4TB drives and never had an AHCI problem. Many times I used a single drive in AHCI mode and loaded an OS onto it. Later i'd convert to RAID using the Intel RST. I'll play around this weekend to see if I can duplicate your situation.

Another reader had a problem with an Intel520 SSD and the 13 series OROM.

Here is an update with the following modification for a GA-EP45-UD3P Rev 1.6 using a 12 series OROM

ICH10R southbridge - v12.7.0.1936
8111C ethernet - rtegrom259.lom
SATA2 chip - jmb362_C_1.07.28
AHCI-pchahci_1.20E

Thanks gto4ben it works fine in RAID mode, not sure about AHCI mode though.

I found that with this board the latest intel driver that supports the P45 chipset in AHCI mode is v11.7.4.1001, but these have a bug which causes a blue screen when waking from sleep at least in windows 8.1 x64.

I've found that if i use RAID mode i can use the latest rapid storage driver, I'm currently using v12.9.2.1000 and am having no blue screen or stability issues at all.

There's are several updates that may be of interest to folks wanting to get their MB bios current in addition to reading >3TB HDs.

The first is trim for SSDs on older chipsets like the P45.
The second is to install Xeon processors (LGA771) using a sticker into a LGA775 MB

For the second one, Gigabyte MBs have the microcodes already in the bios; however, it is outdated. The methods available on the web instruct one to append an existing NCPUCODE. This causes two versions of the microcode to exist in the bios so during boot, the older one gets read first and the newer ignored, unless the MB comes out of sleep mode (for reasons unknown). Using intel's microcode download, I have updated NCPUCODE to be current so SSE4.1 and VT-x is recognized. This was checked out on a QX9770, X5492, E8600 and a Q9650.

In addition, I added the jmb362_C_1.07.05 and ICHAACHI 1.2 original which bring up a screen at boot. This may help AHCI detection issues that some folks were having.

I'm attaching a modified FE bios' for GA-EP45-UD3P rev 1.6 with the following updates:

ICH10R southbridge - v12902006 with the TRIM mod
8111 ethernet - rtegrom259.lom
SATA2 chip - jmb362_C_1.07.05
ICHAACHI 1.2 original from a EP45-USB3P
Updated NCPUCODE

Hello i have a GA-EP45-UD3P (rev. 1.0) and i was wondering if you could make the same changes to the latest beta bios F11d for it?
Additionally i have a question about the dimm slots, do you know if there is any way to use all 4 slots? (i have 4 2gb ram modules install but it is only showing 4gb total memory)

Thanks in advance.

I can make the changes; however, I've had many problems with that version. Some folks that had a mix of SSDs and conventional HDs seem to have better luck. Check later this weekend.

I'm not sure why your MB does not recognize all four DIMM slots. I have several of these MBs and it can recognize 16GB, 4GB per slot. Try resetting the bios by loading optimized settings and then changing the items you want.

I'm attaching a modified FFb bios for GA-EP45-UD3P rev 1.6 with the following updates:

ICH10R southbridge - v12902006 with the TRIM mod
8111 ethernet - rtegrom260.lom
SATA2 chip - jmb362_C_1.07.05
ICHAACHI 1.2 original from a EP45-USB3P
Updated NCPUCODE

Note: I've had great results with this memory: Patriot 4GB (2X2GB KIT) PC2-8500 DDR2 1066MHz 5-5-5-15 2.1V PVS24G8500ELKR2.
All four DIMM slots are recognized. The new bios automatically updates the DRAM voltage for the 1066MHz speed when it detects a CPU that can handle it.

Let us know how this bios works out for you.

Could you post a version for my rev1.0 board?

Unfortunately no matter how i place the ram or how much i reset the bios it only detects 2 of the 4, i fear the board is physically damaged.

Hey GTO4Ben,

I really appreciate you updating the BIOS for this old but still loved board.

I was hoping you could do me a huge favor, combine all your custom and latest updates with the attached bios below that allows for XEON x5400 support.

I really appreciate it!
