GA-MA74GM-S2 Rev 4.0
#1
Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 Rev 4.0
BIOS Version FF

This motherboard has an ATI 2100 integrated gpu and it has high overclocking potential that's not achievable due to the 600Mhz max GPU clock setting in the BIOS. I already have the GPU set at 600Mhz with a 0.1V increase of the NB chipset and I can get 0.3V on it. If possible could someone increase the max clock to ~900Mhz or assist me on how to do it myself it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for any help.

Sorry but im not sure how to do this Sad Is the 600mhz the max setting available because there is an option in the bios to change VGA clock or is the 600mhz lock actually in the VGA BIOS ROM itself???

There's no way to overclock the GPU in windows. Ive tried with many programs. The core clock reading is always very low (between 0-100Mhz) when it's at 400 or 600Mhz and pushing it using the programs don't work. The only way to overclock the GPU is to do it in the BIOS which has a range of 200Mhz to 600Mhz and the defalt is 400Mhz. I wouldn't know how to get access to VGA BIOS ROM on an integrated GPU Tongue. Like said I have it at 600Mhz and it has more potential and was hoping there was a way to increase the upper value higher than 600Mhz so I can overclock more. If it's possible.

Well opening the Video ROM in a hex edit brings up a string that says 600ü0000x. There is also a string which reads 000ü00006 and theres a lot of 6's in the VGA roms file Tongue. However , there would be a huge risk involved in changing these to a 9 Tongue Il do some reasearch on other vga bioses , have a look at what their clock values are , search their ROM etc

Or it might just be as simple as changing the bios defaults onto 900mhz , but somehow i doubt that

Il keep you informed Smile

UPDATE: Sorry , must have had a mental blank their , as i have a tool which can open ATI bios roms and change the default clock settings!!. Unfortunately though the tool cannot recognise the default bios Sad so it wont let me change the clock settings Sad

Thanks for the update, I appreciate you looking in to this for me. I'm guessing the VGA BIOS ROM is integrated with the MOBO BIOS of an integrated video card? I can't seem to save the VGA BIOS file using GPUZ, RBE or ATIWinFlash so I guess I'm right. Yeah I just tried loading the mobo bios into RBE and now the program is not responding, I didn't see that working anyway. It looks like the only way is to edit the BIOS using the hex editor that you were referring to or another way to edit a mobo's BIOS (which I have very little knowledge of) Did you say you could change the "default" value for the GPU clock in the BIOS? I could TRY that and see if using a default of more than 600Mhz will actually work. I have a PCI video card that I can use to reflash to the default BIOS if the integrated decides not to work after. I hope there's more options to explore, I'm sure there's quite a few people out there that would love to OC their integrated video since there's a way to increase the voltage of the NB/GPU. Smile Thanks for your help.

Thats true. The onboard video bios says Radeon Xpress 1250 for Shiner DVI and also Radeon Xpress 1250 for Shiner HDMI . There are actually 3 VGA roms , the two listed then plus an Intel integrated Graphics one.

Ive found the option which is default to 400 and can go up to 600 , now just to work out how to change it!

I am not sure what specific ATI rom editor this would need as it is onboard. If you can find an editor that will ope this with out errors we can proceed forward. I have extracted the ATI ROM. And I am familiar with editing nvidia roms. so if you can manage that I will attempt the mod. it shouldn't be a problem. also he is som info for you search! Big Grin and thx this should be a fun project that everyone here can learn something from! Big Grin

Also I need all the info you can dump from the ATI video adapter on your system. please do not cut and paste any info of a website or manula, etc.
Find any and all ATI tools that will read that onboard ATI video card on that system. I need to know everything you can find. and maybe I can swap the vga rom for a similar but better vga rom with more options and repack it all.

Here's some info using ATITool 0.27 B4

Use Device: 0x796E: RS740, Bus:1,Dev:5
Device ID: 796E
Chip Name: RS740
Host Interface: PCI
Memory Size: 512MB (This is an option in BIOS)
Memory Type: DDR2
Memory Bus Width: 64 Bit
Active ROPs: 4
Vertex Shaders: 4
Pixel Shaders: 4
Default GPU Clock: 600Mhz (It's actually 400Mhz but where I have it set to 600Mhz in BIOS I'm guessing it reads default as 600Mhz)
Default Memory Clock: 266Mhz (this is wrong, I think it specifies the default clock as it sees my memory divider which would be 266Mhz but where I have the bus overclocked it's higher.)
GB_PIPE_SELECT: 0x100

I can't give anymore info right now as I am about to go to work but I will when I get back home. Bye. Thanks for all the help.

Well we haev two ways to go:-

Either theres something in the VGA rom that wont get it higher than 600mhz

OR

We are going to have to hex edit the bios to change the max value. I know some theory but will need time to research and have never done this before!

OR

Could be both Tongue

Another option would be to just swap the vga module with one that isn't locked down so much. Big Grin
