Gigabyte Aorus 17X YB Bios Unlock request
#1
Hello all,

First of all the weirdest thing about this situation is that my laptop arrived with a newer version bios than is available straight from gigabyte themselves. As I can't seem to find a changelog anywhere (Is there a way to find this?) I'm unsure if it's even possible to use the bios I am supplying as it may be rejected as being too old a version. Anyway, here is what is bugging me about my laptop, the AMI bios that is included is about the most barebones I have ever seen. There is zero scope for any teaking bios side and there is problems getting anything other than a mild undervolt to stick with XTU. More improtantly I'd like to be able to enable XMP to make use of the 3200 sticks the laptop ships with instead of being stuck with 2933.

MEGA for the BIOS FB02 & EC F002 downloaded from gigabytes website for this model. Installed is FB04 & EC F002. If this wouldn't work I can extract my current bios and post that.

Thanks in advance.

Hi~guy
Please view this thread and following its step at "5. Change BIOS Lock Variable" to bypass the secure boot to access GRUB shell then type
setup_var 0x17 0x0 to set up option "bios lock" to disable.
(If you don't do this step to disable bios lock ,the modded can't reflash again ,so it's necessary.)

Notice : its run 03-BOOTUSB.bat = load Super-UEFIinSecureBoot-Disk_minimal_modded.zip with rufus.

After you done this process ,download this tool to dump bios and attach it.(Run dump.bat as administrator )
I would  try to edit it for you.

Yes, you can do the same process that i said at post#2 ,then attach the dump bios.

Figured I'd piggyback on this thread since it's the same model (Aorus 17X YB) and no sense opening a new one. Followed the steps to change BIOS lock variable and took a dump.

Try this mod and response the result ,it's modified base on your bios dump.

This thing must have some next-level BIOS lockdown going on. Neither grub nor RU can change the variables needed to fully remove the protections to enable flashing the mod.

@SabishiiHito
So ,the result of previous mod? does it flashing normally(I've told you what need to changes on Grub)? Does it unlock any menu? You don't reply anything yet. Due to you don't reply to me a long time ,i've forgot what i modified and i need re-check again.

And you seems modified the new dump with amibcp ,do you notice that when you save bios with amibcp ,it shown a message "Saving secure rom as unsigned"?? When you see this message , it mean that bios can't re-flash again via fpt even if you change register value on grub shell.

So ,this case don't suitable to edit bios with amibcp.
