My PC is running on the "FB" version from 2009/05/04. Do you need that version or the most recent? (that would be "FK" from 2012/02/29). If it's not making any difference I suppose the newer version is better? Anyway here are the links to both:

current bios (original file): http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/BIO...1.x_fb.exe
newest version from Gigabyte: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/BIO...1.x_fk.exe

Ok friend,
FB version cannot mod not enough space, but FK is Ok !
So UPDATE your Bios to ORIGINAL FK version before and then flash Slic 2.1
version from USB Dos Fat32 Bootable Stick, You can use Rufus to prepare It
then copy into all files from MOD older and Boot from USB, autoexec.bat will
flash automaticaly your Bios Mod :

When I use the Gigabyte software (@BIOS / gwflash) while windows is running and select "Update BIOS from file" and choose the original .fk file it says "Can not load ROM image from BIN file. Maybe BIN file size not match."

When I try to flash the original FK bios from USB, I get a "!!! BAD BIOS IMAGE !!!" warning and nothing happens.

I've also noticed that the original .fk and the modded .fk have the exact same filesize - is that normal?

You gave to me this Bios Link and It's original downloaded from site !
Both Original and Modified have to flash from USB using the FLASHSPI.EXE tool !
I haven't this PC and haven't tried to flash bios on It, but I know that You have to create a
Bootable Fat32 Formatted USB Stick copy all files from Bios Folder for Original version and
after flashed Original, prepare USB copying all files from MOD folder into USB !
When You boot from USB It will use DOS autoexec.bat to execute FLASHSPI.EXE and
flash Bios into Eeprom !

You can use Rufus or HP USB tool to prepare USB Dos Bootable with system on

Look this guide too :

http://forums.tweaktown.com/gigabyte/275...guide.html

Here Rufus :

See how to make one here:

P.S. if You cannot flash ask to Sovem as is more expert than me about Slic.

Did everything the way it was explained: Redone the bootable stick with rufus, added the original .fk bios, usb boot - still getting "bad bios image".

I wonder if it has something to do with the fact that I'm trying to update from the oldest (almost) to the newest bios for this mainbord directly? Is there an older version that you can add SLIC 2.1 to? What is the oldest version that would allow modding? Maybe any of those will work?

I thought of gradually updating from FB to FK (for a total of 8 bios flashes) .. does that make any sense? I'm just wildly guessing because I'm a noob to bios modding/flashing.

Thank you for your patience!

Hi friend,
As I said before You have Always Update Bios version file to Bios Mod version !!!
So download FK Original version and flash that ORIGINAL and get your MoBo Updated to
new Bios and only then You can Flash Bios Mod Slic !!!
This is the Procedure, but I saw that You cannot update never Original as It's not for your
PC ?!?!

I opened my pc to check the mobo model to be super sure about that step: It's EX58-UD3R (rev 1.6) and I downloaded the files again. Tried it both with FLASHSPI in DOS (result: bad bios image) and with the in-bios tool "QFlash" (result: file size error). I'm only talking about unmodded bios here.

With the little understanding I have about the topic my only guess is that it is impossible to update the bios from my "FB" version to the "FK" version directly. There are 6 versions of bios's between them (7 counting one beta).

Only "hope" I'm left with is the "7 flashes in a row" suggestion but I'm not willing to risk that if there are other options...

greetings
