Gigabyte GA-8SIMLH v2 and v3 Prescott support

Hi! I have recently tried and update my old PC, it has a Gigabyte
motherboard GA-8SIMLH Rev 2.0. Further info can be seen here
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product...x?pid=2303&dl=1# And if you look at the CPU support list you discover that it dosen't support "Intel P4-Celeron D 340 2.93G", which I've bought before I stumbled over this page unfortunately. And
my question is... Is it possible to mod my latest BIOS version so it can support this well shall we say "newer" CPU?
Because I figured that if It has a 533 Bus speed it should be compatible with my motherboard. And it's the same socket (478) to.
My guess is that it could be done, and that gigabyte just didn't
bothered because it's such an old motherboard. And maybe it is.
I hope that my english wasn't to bad since I'am Swedish. Many Thank's in advance to those who actually managed to read it all. Ops I forgot to add this. This is the latest BIOS for the motherboard along with all the others http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product...x?pid=2303&dl=1#bios.
The newest (F12) is on top and then it goes down to (F1) which is the oldest one. As I've said in the topic, it is an award bios. version 6.00 or something. I don't know for sure. I've googled around quite a bit but am such a noob when it comes to this stuff. Any help is very much appreciated. And for a start. Is this even possible? Nuff said! Give me your best shot!

Your probably right , because the motherboard supports socket 478 with 533 FSB CPU's (Like the P4 Northwood Core ones) its probably just the microcode for the "Intel P4-Celeron D 340 2.93G" that isnt in the bios. Il try and add it in for you.

Because Gigabyte boards do something funny with the microcode ive had to build you one out of the individual microcode entries for each cpu in the Celeron D series. After this mod , all the Celeron D and Pentium 4 CPU's with FSB 533 should work.

Aaaaww! It didn't work guys! Perhaps my motherboard is to old after
all. It has the same socket and bus speed but perhaps it's something else
that matters like the Core size? I don't think that the CPU is broken because
it looks good with the connection pins and all. Or can it be broken anyway.
What would you bet on? Anyway thanks for the effort 1234!

Maybe it really is a mission impossible? Anyone who has an idea
just shot it. Because I'm out of ideas. And my knowledge about this
stuff is very limited. And google didn't helped much in my case.

Hi! This motherboard uses the SiS 651 chipset, which does not appear to have Prescott support itself. No 651 motherboard supports them.

It's a very old chipset, supporting only FSB 533 CPUs.
I tried a Prescott 2800 533FSB on it but the board failed to boot. No beeps, black screen.

However the SiS 651 chipset appears to be very closely related to the SiS 661GX and 661FX chipset, which do support Prescotts abundantly.

Do you think it's possible to extend support of the FSB533 Prescotts on the GA-8SIMLH? Frequency wise, they would be the same as the Northwood counterparts, but with the extra cache.

Not sure if it's important: The GA-8SIMLH v3 has HT support, whereas the GA-8SIMLH v2 has not.

You can't boot Prescott without special pin mod.
