HP DV6-6180us Whitelist Removal
#1
Hello,

The rundown:

Laptop: HP DV6-6180us
BIOS: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55068.exe
RSA signed? YES (I don't mind taking the semi-brick risk - I've already done so and removing CMOS battery then reflashing original BIOS fixes it fine.)
PCI ID of original WIFI card Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008B&SUBSYS_53158086&REV_34
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008B&SUBSYS_53158086
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008B&CC_028000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_008B&CC_0280

New wireless card I would like to install: Intel Dual-band Wireless-AC 7260, Model: 7260 HMW

For clarity:

I have already scoured the forums and the list of working bios mods and have tried the modded SP55068 bios (which for me did not work and semi-bricked the laptop).

Both before and after the modded bios I get this error:

WIRELESS MODULE NOT SUPPORTED

The system has detected a Wireless module installed in the system is not supported. System halted. Please remove device and restart.

WLAN Module ID (702)

- also, the new wireless card also has Bluetooth 4.0 built into it.

THANKS A MILLION IF YOU GUYS CAN HELP!

Bios mod (by Camiloml): sp55068_NWL_ByCamiloml
https://app.box.com/s/u5wcl0ayr9cr523e6llj

So, I just now flashed my laptop with that modded BIOS that you linked me. After the computer rebooted, I let windows shut it down. I removed the battery and the power cord and the old WLAN chip. I put the new one in and connected the antennae wires and powered up and I got an error:

Invalid Checksum (502)

And it said it would automatically reset the CMOS. Well, then my laptop restarted and I got the all-to-familiar error (702) for an unsupported wireless chip. At that point, the laptop hangs. I restarted it and was back to square one - from the last modded BIOS I checked - the semi-brick. I powered down again and replaced the WLAN chip with the old stock one and reset by removing CMOS battery for 10minutes. Then powered up and reflashed with stock sp55068 BIOS from HP.

Okay...what now? I freaking hate HP for this malarkey, by the way.

UPDATE: I have my new WLAN card working in my HP DV6-6180us.

These are the Steps I followed (refer to above to see the problems I was having, this will make more sense):

1) Flashed my laptop with this modded BIOS: http://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/index.php?dir=Whitelists%2F&download=sp55087_NWL_ByCamiloml.exe

2) After the pc rebooted, I went online and downloaded - without installing - the newest software and drivers for the new WLAN card I would be installing.

3) Without shutting down (just closed the laptop) removed the access panel, and removed the old wireless card.

3) I followed this pic by Camiloml and taped the pin on my new WLAN card: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-RE...est?page=3

4) Inserted the new card and connected the wires.

5) Then, after opening the laptop, Restarted through Windows.

6) After rebooting, went and found the file for the drivers/software that I downloaded for my new WLAN card, and installed them.

7) Laptop restarted again once installation was complete and now I'm successfully using the Intel dual band wireless AC 7260 in my HP dv6-6180us.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HELPED AND A SPECIAL THANKS TO CAMILOML FOR MODDING THE BIOS.[/align]

Hello! I too have an HP dv6 6180us and am trying to install the Intel 7260 dual channel card with bluetooth. My situation is much the same Whoowhee's original situation. Booting with the normal bios and the new card gives the unsupported wireless module error. I have tried Whoowhee's method (except I am using the sp55068_NWL_ByCamiloml.exe instead of the sp55087_NWL_ByCamiloml.exe and I swapped steps 5 and 6) and upon restarting my laptop, I received a new message reporting that the bluetooth module is unsupported. Please help me.

You can find a modded version of the sp55068 bios here with both the wifi and bluetooth whitelists removed. Enjoy Big Grin

And I always appreciate donations Blush

Thank you very much, I will you let know how this goes.

Update:
Everything is working fine now. I did not need the pin 20 tape like whoowhee needed. The only real caveat was that after installing the chip, I had to uninstall and reinstall the driver. Until I did that, I was getting a "device is unable to start" (code 10) type error in the device manager. After restarting, the chip still works so I'm calling it a success. Are there any known problems with the modded bios? I know the camiloml had the semi-brick problem and you couldn't adjust the bios options. Does this have similar constraints?
