Help please.....
#1
Argh!!!! I've been on withHP tech support for roughly 2 hours (about 1:45 of that on hold). I have a Pavillion m9252p with what I believe is a ipibl-lb mb. Long story short - I "upgraded" the BIOS from HP's site and re-booted to a BSOD.

They want to charge me to "fix" it, and I feel that's crap because it's their file that caused the problem and now I have to call them to fix it. Hummmmm the irony.

I'm an IT guy so most of this isn't new to me, but crap if I can find the correct BIOS, and I DON'T want to pay HP ANYTHING.

Can you please help?

Thanks in advance,
dbl

Can you get into windows if you use safe boot?

That could mean that the bios flash reset some bios settings and you either need to reinstall windows or find out which bios settings need to be changed. Maybe AHCI settings.

If you want a copy of the bios, go here:
http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

Type "Pavillion m9252p" in the search box.
Select your OS, hit next. Download the bios and flash.

Moral Hazzard,

Thanks a ton for the reply. I can't get into Windows at all, not with: Last Known Good Config, or Safe Mode.

Windows starts to boot, I can see "Windows" with the little balls floating around it for about 2 seconds then a quick blue screen flash (maybe 1/2 a second), then a forced re-boot.

I originally got the BIOS from HP's site. I did the steps you mentioned above and that's what started the probs to begin with. I told the tech 'support' guy that they should take the file down or they'll get more calls like mine. He laughed! This is totally a scam! I use THEIR file, didn't skip a step in THEIR instructions, and after the re-boot THEIR software told me I had to do, I get a crashed machine and "I" have to pay for it! I've flashed 100's of BIOS' over the years of being in IT, and I totally understand the risks, but this seems 100% their fault. It's a simple download to desktop-double click file-read warning about not shutting comp down during process-click 'yes' to confirm you want to-flash takes a short time-click 'yes' to re-boot. Hello blue screen (and Peggy from India).

I'm just looking for the Rom files I can put on a bootable USB or CD to roll back the BIOS. The file that's on HP's site is a .exe file so that one doesn't help.

Thanks,
dbl

If you want to extract the rom file from the .exe here is how it's done:
Download 7-zip, install it.
Right click on the .exe file, select 7-zip and extract.
7-zip can actually extract most .exe files as if they were a zip file.

MH - excellent! I'll give it a go later on today. Thanks for the help. I've never used 7 Zip on .exe files. It makes sense though. Thanks again.
