Lenovo B590 (H1ET85WW) AES-NI Unlock
#1
Hey,
Ás you can see in the subject I own a Lenovo B590 with disabled AES-NI.
I tried modding the bios myself. What follows is a long story kinda short:

As I researched on the topic i found this:
http://pastebin.com/4Wa0iaHzand
and
http://forum.notebookreview.com/windows-...em-15.html
and a russian one:
https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=de&sl=ru&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fhabrahabr.ru%2Fpost%2F185754%2F&sandbox=1

I first used Phoenixtool to modify the Bios.("no slic" and "allow user to modify other modules" checked in advanced)
Than I searched through the folder with Total commander to find Hex code: 48 83 C8 03
I found a couple of files and looked at the code with IDA 6.6.
As sugested by the russians it seemed to be the file 62D171CB-78CD-4480-8678-C6A2A797A8DE_1082.ROM
I changed the Hex code in that file from [48 83 C8 03] to [48 83 01 C8]
Then I clicked OK in phoenoixtool to generate a new Bios file.

Here comes the problem:
Neither Winflash/winphlash/winphlash64 nor Dos flash worked. (decompression with e_bcpvpw.exe said missing header. So i assumed its already decompressed and renamed it to BIOS.WPH.)
Error msg is:
Platform Signature Not found in the Interface.(dos)
Failed to verify Secureboot. Error code 314 (lenovo flash ulity)
Corrupted interface discriptors in the new Bios file. Error code -161 (Winphlash)

Original and modded Bios with DUMP folder and Slic Log:

I dont have many more ideas. Maybe its possible to unlock a hidden menu and enable aes-NI in there?

Can you help?
Regards

I would really enjoy being able to encrypt my harddrives with truecrypt or veracrypt.
I just cant get the unlock to work. Chances are high that im just stupid. Wink
Maybe its a problem with the BIOS-repacking of phoenixtool?
pls give me some help.

Hi, looking at your BIOS I cant find a Hidden Page Option BUT i can see normal hidden options such as:

Adaptive Thermal Management
TrackPoint
Touch Pad
ThinkPad NumLock
Mode for AC
Scheme for AC
Scheme for Battery
Optical Drive Speed
Express Card Speed
Power On with AC Attach
Password Beep

Please reply on what options you wish me to enable. I can do all if you want but I want to ask you first.

Kind Regards

Hey LosSantos,

Thanks for taking a look at my bios. :)
If you mean unlocking a hidden menu by "to enable options" I would really appreciate beeing able to access all the settings.

One question: What tool do you use to modify bios or reverse engineer it? I tried IDA but assembler is hard to understand.

Best regards

Hi, I have attached your BIOS below with a link too.

I use UEFITool and HxD to modify BIOSes

https://www.sendspace.com/file/2fq9ri

Run flash.bat in DOS

Mhh...its gonna take a couple more minutes.
I´m currently createing a dos startup disk with HP usb format tool.
Its performing a normal format on my 32 gb stick ;(
Is it even right following this tutorial: https://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-H...GINAL-BIOS
but than copy your files onto the usb stick instead of the ones suggested in the tutorial and then run flash.bat inside the dos system?
