Hi everyone,
I'm relatively new to updating BIOS and could use some help. I have a few older HP 8460p and 8470p laptops running Linux, which we set up for our kids. The OS version we’re using is nearing end of support, and I’d like to upgrade to Zorin or a newer version of Mint. Unfortunately, it looks like the BIOS (from 2011) doesn’t recognize these newer OSes.
I’ve been trying to update the BIOS to a 2018 version, but I’ve hit a snag. The machine no longer boots fully, though I can still access the BIOS settings and boot from a USB stick. I’ve tried using FreeDOS and an older flashing tool, but it turned out to be incompatible with this model.
From what I’ve read, HPBIOSUPDREC.EXE is the right tool for flashing from FreeDOS on these systems. I haven’t been able to find a copy anywhere.
If anyone happens to have this file or can point me to a reliable source, I’d be really grateful.
Thanks in advance!
Cheers,
Stickboy
