M2N68-LA with Phoenix Award BIOS has no fan/heat sink setting control
#1
I recently changed the motherboard in a HP Compaq Presario SR5421F Desktop. The original mobo was Asus M2N68-LA version Narra-GL8E. I replaced it with M2N68-LA version Narra6-GL6. When I boot up I get "ERROR: system fan failed press F2 to continue". The fan in the computer is a CPU fan and it is attached to the mobo header for CPU Fan. The fan is running just fine. By pressing F2 the computer boots Windows XP without a problem. Note that there is a header on the mobo for Chasis Fan, but the computer does not have a chasis fan. The problems solving section of the HP website states that in the BIOS, there is a Hardware Monitor section that allows enabling and disabling monitoring of the fan for different configurations. See below from the HP instructions:

9.Use the up and down arrow keys to select Hardware Monitor , and press Enter .
10.Select CPU Fan Check and press Enter .
11.Use the following list to determine the CPU Fan Check value for your PC configuration:
◦Active heat sink; cooling fins directly on processor with a fan sitting on top of the fins.
hardware monitor/CPU fan check = ENABLED
◦Passive heat sink; cooling fins on processor without a fan directly on top.
hardware monitor/CPU fan check = DISABLED
◦Fan duct leading to a fan sitting on or directly over the processor cooling fins.
hardware monitor/system fan check = ENABLED
◦Fan duct without any fan
hardware monitor/system fan check = DISABLED

The problem is that when I enter the Phoenix AwardBIOS Set Up Utility Rev 5.38, there is no Hardware Monitor section under the Advanced tab.
Is there a different BIOS I need to install? How would I find such a BIOS?
Thanks for any help you can offer on this.

Please run a backup image of your BIOS so I can see what's up with that meny.

Hey Wiz,
Thanks for the reply. Glad to "run a backup image of the BIOS", but I don't know how. Can you give me some instructions on that?
Thanks.
