Optiplex 755 Quad-Xeon Bios Mod!

Hello,

I have a Dell 755 USFF - I'm running the A22 BIOS found here -

I'd like help to remove the CPU limitation on running Quad core chips.

The reason they've added this limitation is due to the smaller Power Supply Unit they provided on the USFF.

Can someone help?

The Intel Chipset is the Q35

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum. I have a Dell Optiplex that currently has a Core 2 Duo in it, and I want to do the Xeon LGA771 to LGA775 mod. Before I buy the processor and mod sticker, I want to know if my BIOS will support it or not, and if not can someone make a mod for me? It is Dell's A22 I believe, if not I will upgrade to it. I know nothing about BIOS mods.

I just don't want to waste money on it if the BIOS won't work. So someone please just download the Optiplex 755 A22 bios and mod it for me or something Smile

You shouldn't need a bios mod for this computer because it contains more microcode than most, but your Q35 chipset does not support 5xxx Series processors.

Are you sure that the chipset will not support it? The 5xxx series processors are the exact same thing as the 9xxx C2Q processors, just for a different motherboard, a lower price, and a different name. I saw a forum in which someone got a C2Q working in a 745 USFF (or something like that), which is a lot like the one I have, but I believe it does have a different GPU. Multiple people argued that his chipset wouldn't support it, but in the end he reported that he got it working.

Yes, the problem is that the 5xxx series processors are for multiprocessor systems. While many Core2 chipsets will support them running solo (P45, P43, P35, P31, P965 G45, G43, G41, G35, G33, G31), some will not (Q45, Q43, Q35, Q33 X48, X38). You can still run Xeons, just not the really cheap ones.

Ok,
I have built several computers in the past. It went easy as pi Smile
I recently got a "Dell Optiflex 755 SFF" PC froma friend

PC SPECS
Intel Core 2 Duo VPRO 2.33Ghz
2gb ram (1x2gb)
AMD x1300 128mb gpu
300W PSU

What is the best xeon processor that I can put into this? Will it require a bios update/ mod?

Optiplex 755 is q35 chipset,so it should only to support xeon 3 series i think.
The best of 3 series xeon is x3363(equivalent e5440).

Please update version a22 from dell site,it's already contain micro code for 771 xeon.
After i check some bios for dell optilex series pc,i found optiplex 7X5 series already added microcode for e0 stepping with 771 but optiplex XX0 series (like:360 or 380) is not,but it still contain fully c0 micro code for 775 and 771.

If you don't get more trouble with bios,c0 stepping is the best choice for you.
